Be interesting to see how premium prices hold up once these are launched

"But don’t expect the 718 line to quickly inflate with various models like we see in the 911 line. Achleitner said Porsche will only add more models if it makes sense to do so."

This last statement most likely means we won't see at least for a couple of years and anything can change between now and then !
Also no mention of spyder being flat6 only GT models!

And, according to a conversation I had yesterday. Don't even bother to put a deposit down unless you have had 10 previous models of Porsche, all purchased from an OPC.
This would appear to be the stance from Porsche to stop people flipping, which makes no sense whatsoever. I will never be able to afford to get into that club, so if I want a GT product or even a Spyder I need to pay overs. Ridiculous.
Not really, you should be able to get one based on the fact you have a Boxster GTS. Just go chat to the opc you bought your original one from.

Doesn't sound promising for me then! If and when the 718 GT4 is announced I'll talk to the OPC that supplied my Cayman GTS, but I would bet I won't even get a sniff of one as I'm:

a) new to Porsche ownership
b) not 'mates' with the OPC principal/sales manager

I deleted my comments, you can never be sure if what you are told is true. Take it with a pinch of salt.

Actually I think it will pretty easy to pick up the 718 GT4. Now that the GT3 will also come in a manual, then all the hype over the GT4 will be gone. Dont forget that the gt4 is nowhere near as rare as people think it is.

Great news!

Just how they will argue that the 718 that was postioned as the spriritual successer of a famous for pot is now getting an F6 will be funny to see

Not really. Different car different customer different price point.

GT4 around only 450 UK cars. 991 GT3 c 350.

Depends what your definition of 'rare' is. 458s quite rare but as many as c 1250 in the UK.

Agreed.

And by the time Porsche builds their last car with a naturally aspirated engine and manual transmission, very few people (outside PH) will care about it anymore. I say this having test-driven the i3/i8 and a friend's 918 and his Tesla model X.

I'll still long for an "old-fashioned" car in my garage for enjoyable weekend trips but that'll be a 356 or late 60s 911, certainly not a GT4.

All of this "last this", "last that", "limited edition" talk is just the Porsche PR department playing their target audience like a fiddle. But if it works and both sides are happy there's nothing wrong with that.

It will be badged as Porsche GT4 only - NOT 718. Job done...

But the 718GTS will be faster. I know that the purists will say that doesn't matter blah blah, but I suspect rather fewer will vote with their wallets.

Thinking on this some more it is my view the spyder will be a F4 turbo!
And as the statement says all GT models will be F6 then my view is the GT4 will get a smaller capacity version of the 4.0 in the current RS to make it competitive with perhaps circa 450 hp and a price tag starting close to a £100k plus extras!
Porsche have done the experiment to test the market and can see punters will be prepared to pay £100k plus for a Gt4!
And if overs do or don't continue on the new model then I can see no harm done to 981 gt4 residuals .

I just want the new Spyder to have a trick R8 style electric roof.

then I'll buy one as a daily, it must have boot access though as I use my cars for work and need easy boot access 4 or 5 times a day !

the 981 roof was a deal breaker for me, the steering I could live with just ! .... lets have the x51 engine and a set of short ratio's also lol

how good would that car be !

If the new GT4 comes with a flat 6 they can have my deposit now! However, then its a lottery to see if your "allowed" to buy one. I intend on buying one only if its a flat six (Manual or PDK). As it would make the natural upgrade from my GTS.

What's the ETA on the new GT4 2017 or 2018?

"Achleitner went on to explain that Porsche has no intention of ditching naturally-aspirated flat-6 engines anytime soon, stating that they will be reserved for enthusiasts models like the GT4, GT3 and GT3 RS"

No mention of flat6 for spyder so would you still want one mrD with r8 style roof and f4 turbo?
If the new 991.2 gt3 arrives early next year then the earliest we will see a revised gt4 is 2018 arriving our shores late 2018 early 2019!

Next GT4 will be similar timing to 991.2 GT3 RS I.e. 2019.

Next GT4 in 2018-19. Don't get all the complaining about not being "allowed" to buy a current day GT4, or "no prior history"; if the effort was put in, there was no reason not to have been assigned one, like me!

As has been said before, the 911 Turbo S is faster than a GT3. Different types of buyers, so Porsche may well mirror that in the 'lesser' range...

Surely they will jack the price up by £20k? Weaker Pound post Brexit won't help either.
