718 GT4 & Spyder to be flat sixes
Discussion
I can't see there being a 718 badge on the Gen 2 GT4. I also think Porsche have plenty of historical examples of changing their mind and doing things they said they wouldn't.
The simplest way to cement the reputation and 'halo' the 718 range is to produce a quick GT4 with 4 cyl FI engine. This would keep a sensible gap between base, S, GTS and GT4 and would involve minimal R&D - good profit margins.
If Porsche want to go balls out and put a detuned 4.0 9A1 derivative in the Gen 2, then it will be much more expensive and will have nearly no PR connection with a 718.
Judging by discussion on Euro forums, Porsche AG are going to milk the cow on the next GT3 - i.e no limited run and build as many as needed. I reckon the next GT4 will have a similar lack of restriction on production, especially if it's a 4 cyl 718 Halo model.
I forgot to mention, I collected my (original and best) GT4 from Stuttgart last week. Love it deeply.

You are a proper charmer aren't you. I've ignored your incessant baiting on various threads until now, but I will call you out on your complete contradiction in your two posts above. So we have to believe August, but we can't believe Andreas (the boss of the GT division)?
I made the point that this far out, Porsche can and do say one thing and then ultimately do another.
Where is the NA F6 in current 3.8 litre guise coming from in 2/3 years time? They won't be making it for any existing model, and the only NA engine in the line up will be the GT 4.0 engines or similar.
It all comes down to marketing and cost. Neither you nor I know what will happen, but as this is a motoring forum where people can express opinions, I think my points are as perfectly valid as yours - unless of course you have Andreas or August on LinkedIn and they are telling you the facts?.
people run x51 GT4 in the USA it's not an issue fitting it in.
You cannot take anything from any sales talk from Porsche or any one else for that matter.
I would also say the next GT4 might well be turbo. other wise the 718 GTS will just be the fastest 2 seater sports car in the range !

I don't think current (ever increasing) numbers on the gt4 shows that there has been any restriction on production either. Even on the gt3 plenty were made for a good long time.P.S nice colour on your car
Yes I was told some time ago by OPC that roll out of higher performance models was likely to be quicker than we have been used to as they are more profitable and VW Group need the increased revenues! Witness the parrallel roll out of 991 Turbo and Turbo S - previousy separated by several months.

Here's hoping this is true and the 981 GT4 drops back to sensible levels as a result.
I can then afford one!
Yes, that's a good thought. My opinion is that the new GT4 and Spyder will have F6 engines, not be badged 718 (due to it being a 4cyl badge), look slightly different to 718 (not difficult for either) and be unlimited in production. This will push down 981 GT4 prices further as owners upgrade.I can then afford one!
What's the life cycle of the 981/718 shape? 7-8 years from launch in 2012? So, to sell loads of GT4/Spyders before 2020 these need to be out 18 months from now. No doubt Porsche have already penned the 983 (or whatever) design.
