What time did the Leeds contingent actually arrive at Cross Butts? We set off from Leeds in dribs and drabs and gave up following the prescribed route about halfway through. The traffic on the A64 meant we were pretty much stationary for three quarters of an hour so we peeled off at Strensall.
Took a route over Howardian Hills and North York Moors (avoiding the A169) and it was nearly completely clear. We didn't save much time but we managed to give the car a decent honking. The group from Newcastle said they'd managed to stay in convoy so maybe a different route from Leeds next time? Or make it a breakfast meet?
We left Leeds soon after 10 but knew the A64 was a bit of a nightmare as some friends from York were also on the event so we took the same route as you and arrived at Cross Butts shortly after 12. The group that took the official route arrived about 20 - 30 minutes after us. A64 will always be a problem on a sunny summer Sunday so I agree a different route would be better but taking a large number of cars on narrow country lanes would bring it's own problemsTook a route over Howardian Hills and North York Moors (avoiding the A169) and it was nearly completely clear.
