Cayman 718 Delivery dates
Discussion
Hi all,
When I ordered my Cayman early August, the scheduled freeze date was today, 1-Sep, with estimated delivery 11-Nov.
At what point should I expect the dealer to get a meaningful update / confirmation of timeline from the factory? Should it be around the freeze date, or is it a bit later when the car actually goes into production? The OPC has never been very clear on this point when I've asked.
Many thanks

I think mine was lockdown middle of May, into production July and delivery 3rd week of august. When I ordered my Cayman early August, the scheduled freeze date was today, 1-Sep, with estimated delivery 11-Nov.

I'd ring and confirm that it's gone into lockdown don't feel like you're pestering them they're used to it and know that the information isn't great as I don't think they get clear info from Porsche themselves. Mine told me of the system reporting cars in the factory only to have them turn up on a transporter the next day

Thanks, so does the dealer get a notification from the factory when it goes into official lockdown?I'd ring and confirm that it's gone into lockdown don't feel like you're pestering them they're used to it and know that the information isn't great as I don't think they get clear info from Porsche themselves. I ordered back in January, spoke to OPC mid August and given an estimated date of 28th September. Heard nothing until Tuesday when they rang to say car had arrived, apparently their system has been down since last week. Anyway, managed to get everything sorted so picking up tomorrow!
OPC said that delivery for a base is now looking at July, but an S quite a bit sooner.

That's great. I ordered mine end of April, locked spec in June and get it Monday. I think I may of been lucky going on what wait some people have had OPC said that delivery for a base is now looking at July, but an S quite a bit sooner.
Just been on visit to Stuttgart Factory and Frankfurt motor show. Susprised to see Cayman on Stuttgart production line as had previously believed that they were being produced at Osnabruck. Factory tour guide stated ALL sports cars produced at Stuttgart. However in discussion with Porsche Exclusive executive at Motor Show with a friend who wanted some specific changes on his Cayman GTS it was stated that Cayman is produced at BOTH Stuttgart and Osnabruck. This was given as reason for not being able to offer same customisation options as are available for 911 and Boxster since they have restricted customisation in Osnabruck and cannot determine in advance at which factory an individual car is to be built !! Very strange.
The cheapest I found was with Admiral which was £1050, I’m 32 with 13 years no claims and 3 points.
What was weird though or at least I thought so is that they made me declare every single option and then had to check it with an underwriter. They said they’d repair with OEM parts including windscreen and that I could get 3 quotes and choose the garage that was cheapest so I could go to 3 Porsche dealers.
Hopefully that is of some help

My cheapest was £530 before adding NCB protection and legal cover (£590), £400 excess. They'll use OEM parts but not an OPC. Got a specialist to quote £880, OEM parts and OPC repairs. Also includes track insurance and is new for old as far as replacement is concerned. has a £650 excess though, which can be removed for an extra £70. 43 no claims/convictions.

I'm with admiral (c£800, 31 full Ncb living ooopp north), but don't recall them asking me to declare options? I purschased via a comparison site however so may have somehow skirted the question.
Amazing to see how much the prices have gone up. One comparison site I used still had the cheapest quote saved when I had a look in February, the new one was 50% more
In the end I went with the more expensive option. One of the nice things about it was that they will replace a car with the same exact spec one, even if it's more than you paid. Useful for me as I'm paying a less than the list price, plus they'll doubtless increase again in future. There's no excess, cheapest one had a £400, plus they use OPC for repairs etc. Some other good features I can't recall at the moment.
