Another one here with Admiral, plus gap. 718 C S

£530 premium, £250 voluntary excess.

Did not have to declare any of the extras on the car, which has PASM, Sport Chrono, PSE.

I'm with Admiral too, £220 per annum on a multi car policy, 2 cars are £560 pa. I didn't need to declare anything even when I offered. I'm probably a bit older than some of the previous posters but pretty decent deal.

It did sound odd to me at the time but other than taking 30 mins longer on the phone no real problem with it and I know they have my full spec.

Seems I win in the most expensive insurance category frown

Mine was pretty steep too at £800 (mirrored 9yr NCB from my daily runner, 5000 mile limit, 38yrs old).

That was with Mannings, Admiral came out at exactly the same price which was the cheapest on a comparison site.

Hi all,

My 718 Cayman went into the factory on Fri 6 October, according to my OPC. Does anybody know how long it usually takes to leave the factory and get scheduled for transport I assume that's the next point at which I'll be able to get a revised estimated delivery date? (currently 2-Nov but obviously hoping it gets brought forward!)

Thanks

Since placing my order back in May, I've heard diddly from my OPC. The only date I was given was my lockdown date and I had to ask for that.

I was never informed of the date my 718 went to build but my OPC contacted me when it arrived at Emden (the port it leaves to cross to the UK). I’d collected it from my OPC within a week.

Thanks - I checked in with OPC today. Entered factory Fri 6th, left factory Fri 13th. Hopefully Emden tomorrow apparently.

My car was completed on 13-Oct and has been sitting at "Entry factory compound Osnabruck" since then - for 8 days! When I look at the original schedule it was supposed to be at that point for 1 day. This is torture!

For reference my completion date was the 9th October so its taken just over 2 weeks, it arrived at the dealership on Friday 20th October.

When I first enquired I think the waiting list was 12 months and by the time I got round to ordering it was around 7. At least you won't have long to wait and we'll done for getting your first Porsche at 20. I was driving a clapped out Rover at your age!!

Congrats! Sounds like they've finally sorted the re-tooling issues at the factory that plagued many of us.

I have a suspicion that your insurance at 20 might not be as bonkers as you'd expect.

I remember being 21 many years ago and finding that insuring a Noble M12 was half of what it was costing me to insure RenaultSport Clio!

Presume it's something to do with statistics in that statistically far more 20 year olds crash a Corsa or a Clio than an out and out sports car!

So I finally got around to ordering my Cayman 718 at the weekend, and I was seriously surprised by the short waiting list! Ordered October 28 with a build slot for January, and expected delivery end of Jan. So if there’s no delays, then I’m looking at around a 3 month wait in total, which is much quicker than I was expecting it to be! I’ve ordered from the Aberdeen OPC.

Here’s my spec:

Manual
Miami Blue
20” 911 Turbo wheels
Full colour Porsche crests on wheels
Sports tailpipes in black
Side air intakes in metallic jet black
Front air intakes in metallic jet black
Heated seats

The next 3 months are going to be torture... but it’ll be so worth it! Proud of myself for working hard enough to be able to treat myself to a new Porsche at age 20! Now time to cross my fingers and check out insurance quotes... uh oh!
Congratulations! I thought I was doing well ordering at age 21 so hats off to you! My 718 is also arriving mid to late January also, a little worried about collecting in winter but hey ho.
I’ve had a look at a few quotes and the cheapest so far without telematics has been with aviva at £1830 (21, 4yrs ncb, 12000miles fully comp) they also save quotes for 60 days rather than the usual 30 so may be worth looking into.

I locked down on the 16th October ordered in early September so similar wait time.

My spec is as follows for those who may be interested:
718 cayman
Gt silver
Manual
Carrera S wheels in satin black
Sports exhaust in black
PASM
Bi xenons with PDLS
gt sport steering wheel
Climate
Model designation in black
Sports bucket seats
Interior package painted gt silver
Bucket seat passages painted gt silver
Silver grey seatbelts
Instrument dial in white
Smoking package
Passenger storage net

Out of interest does anyone know where I could get 911r style side decals to fit, Porsche don’t do them but think they would complete the look of the car..

Yeah, I wasn’t planning on ordering mine until early next year sometime, but after reading about the long wait times and delays I decided to order it sooner - I honestly had my fingers crossed for delivery by next summer, so when the salesman told me January I was taken aback at first! Certainly didn’t expect a mere 3 month wait, but am definitely not complaining!

You’re right about insurance. I’ve looked into quotes and Admiral is definitely the cheapest - around £1400. It’s the same price I currently pay for my TT’s insurance, so that’s a relief that my insurance won’t be extortionately jumping like I was expecting it to!

Well done to you! Ah, yeah, I’m anxious too. Knowing our luck, our collection dates will be the same day a snowstorm decides to hit! Praying the weather is dry!

Wow - I’ve checked quotes now for my insurance and I can get mine for £1400! No black box, 1 year NCB, 8,000 miles. Must be the areas we’re in!

Amazing spec - it’ll look great!

Out of curiosity, when you were ordering yours, did you find the salesmen to disregard you at first because of your age? I was repeatedly told to go away and think about it and maybe come back another time when I had every intention to order a car that afternoon! Maybe it’s because I’m a 5ft 3” female who looks younger than 20 that I wasn’t taken too seriously, but I’d be curious to find out if anyone else felt the same way?

I initially inquired about ordering a car around 12 months ago and went to the salesman who my dad deals with, thinking they would be helpful. To my surprise they were very rude - dismissing the fact it was going to be my hard earned money buying the car and not a present from “ mummy and daddy” in his words. As you can imagine I walked away with a bitter taste. I decided to go back to the same OPC but requested another salesperson when I actually came to ordering and they were incredibly helpful, no prejudice at all.

Just got a call from Aberdeen OPC - they’ve now found me a December build slot instead of January! So ordered October 28 with a December build slot and an early Jan delivery. So good news to anyone planning on ordering anytime soon, because the waiting time has definitely dropped a lot compared to the wait times many people were having a year ago!

Hey guys,

Long time lurker, first time poster here. Just thought I’d finally register. Anyway, I’ve just placed an order for a Cayman 718, been quoted Jan build for March delivery. Spec is as follows:

Guards Red
Model designation painted in black
Parking system plus
Manual transmission
Sports exhaust
64 litre fuel tank
19 Inch Cayman S wheels
Cruise control
GT sport steering wheel
Seat heating

A little bare bones perhaps compared to some of the other specs, but thanks for all the helpful info posted here, and some very good looking cars! Roll on the 1st of March.

Congrats! Today is the day for me, collecting this afternoon after 13 weeks of waiting. It's been painful but all seems worthwhile now. My first car, but I'm glad I held out for the one I always wanted!
