We ordered one for the shop (718 S) which will be delivered in December. Will be developing proper sounding exhaust system, tuning upgrades etc. Looking forwarding to get it.

Congrats! Today is the day for me, collecting this afternoon after 13 weeks of waiting. It's been painful but all seems worthwhile now. My first car, but I'm glad I held out for the one I always wanted!
Congrats! Have fun this afternoon and post some pictures smile

Congrats - enjoy the handover! Norm is separate area with your car covered ready for the grand unveiling. You'll probably get a few freebies and a run through all the various features (setting up the PCM for example). Here's mine with prosecco in the cupholders:

Never understood red interior with a white car. Pink seems even weird(er)

Er...actually it's Rhodium Silver, not white. Not easy to tell from the pic!

Remarkably, my car has arrived a month earlier than planned! Ordered October 28, expected to take delivery around the end of Jan/early Feb but it arrived at my OPC on Christmas Eve!

I'm collecting it tomorrow, and the salesman from my OPC has emailed me to say he'll make sure my experience during the handover is one to remember. Any ideas what he's talking about? How were your own personal experiences collecting your new Caymans? Cordoned off section of the showroom, sheet over the car etc etc etc? Just looking for some heads up on what to expect!
Congrats!

Nothing special here, just the car covered in a sheet which they uncovered during what the sales staff referred to as 'The Reveal'. Which was the sum total of them pulling off the sheet. No freebies for me apart from a plastic picture frame with a pic of my new car in it.

Spec is nice and simple:

Base Cayman
Manual
Miami Blue
20” 911 Turbo alloys
Porsche crest wheel centres in full colour
Sports tailpipes in black
Side air intakes in metallic jet black
Heated seats

Only regret is that I didn’t go for the parking sensors - seriously wishing I’d added those!

So far, I’m being careful with the RWD as it’s snow and ice up here in the north right now, so I haven’t had a chance to get a proper feel for the car yet. I’m only 5ft 3”, so I’m struggling to see over the bonnet a little and am finding pulling up alongside kerbs and aligning myself almost impossible right now - the shape of the car’s body will take some getting used to, and kerbing an alloy is the last thing I want to do!

The manual gearbox is pretty stiff at the moment (getting the lever over into reverse requires some serious effort) but I’m hoping this will slacken up as gear changes feel quite heavy right now. The electronic handbrake is... interesting. The automatic release isn’t the smoothest compared to what I’ve been used to in my last car, but I’m hoping after a few days I’ll get the hang of it. Seems to awkwardly stumble forward, and sometimes it doesn’t even release at all.

As for the infamous engine noise... Honestly, I have no idea where all the negative hype comes from, because I think it sounds incredible, and so does everyone else who hears the engine when I start it up. Lots of widened eyes and appreciative nods.

Overall, I’m delighted with the car and it seriously stands out around town. Once the weather clears up, I’ll be taking the car out for a proper drive!

Thanks that is a really interesting review and spec. Have you further pictures?

An Audi TT, so obviously a vast improvement. I think that unless you’re used to driving Porsches and other sports cars, then the engine doesn’t sound bad at all when you have nothing to compare it to! Sounds much better in sport mode too.

I think that hits the nail on the head. From my (limited) information a lot of 718s go to non porsche owners. The hoped for upgrade brigade from 987/981 has not materialised in anything like the numbers anticipated.

A lot of first time Porsche buyers though so that is probably the 718 fulfilling its role as My First Porsche.

Congratulations with your new acquisition – Great colour, one I almost went for that myself but prior to a trip to the dealer for a test drive last Saturday I had settled on GT Silver. I’m sure you will love the car especially once the winter is over.

I’m not a first time Porsche owner, coming from a Gen 2 Cayman S (manual) that I have had from new since 2011, I was determined to ignore the great ‘engine debate’ and see for myself. Yes, the sound may be different but even after 6.5 years of a flat 6 I didn’t find this an issue at all and I was seriously impressed with the car as a whole. I will be collecting my new 718 on Saturday!

I had resigned myself to a possible six month wait (maybe an annual price increase in the meantime??) but am feeling very lucky…..having been considering a change since the summer (OK convincing the ‘management’ that it was a good time to change the car hehe) I somehow picked the right day to visit the dealer as a cancelled order had come in over Christmas which was very close my spec, except for a handful of additional options that my final spec did not include, that combined with decent discount made it an easy decision.

Specs include: -
Cayman S
GT silver
PDK (wavered over this choice back in 2011 – having driven a variety of Porsche's since, all with PDK eg, 911, 981, Panamera and Cayenne I needed no more persuasion!)
Bi -Xenons with PDLS
Park assist (front and rear)
PASM (10mm drop)
Sport Chrono inc Mode switch
Sports exhaust
20” Carrera Sport wheels in Glass Black
Cruise control
Auto dimming mirrors
14 way sport seats
Climate
Heated seats/wheel
Bose sound

I too will be looking forward to the weather clearing up - at least the current weather will help slow me down and get the car run in properly..... driving

Has anyone awaiting there 718 has issues with delivery over Christmas?
I was expecting to be collecting my car tomorrow which was all good until last night I was told I couldn’t. Not been given a reason why other than the car isn’t available. It has been in the uk docks since 18th December... do I have reason to get grumpy with the OPC as they haven’t been keeping me in the loop and I have been chasing up?
Getting a bit sick of the experience now as it’s not the first mistake they’ve made.
