Ha ha.....I am not saying I prefer one to the other...I like them both.....but how anybody can argue with the above picture comparison is beyond me! The 718 does look narrower and taller. If you had two black ones together....they'd look the same!

One of the porsche designers/engineers explaining in the video below, how they have tried to make the rear wider (it's not really wide but the form/the badge they used, it's an optical design trick imho) - His explanation starts around 5.20

I think creases are more clear when we compare 981 to 987. on 718, its quite difficult to notice but from the close look I realized creases on 718 much more blending on the main surface like air intakes. I do prefer the 981's front though, I think the previous radiator+cooling fans section were much more explicit they were looking like trying to escape from the body

Well it's not "really" stupid. Really stupid would be saying that I don't like the fifth wheel on the roof?Car makers make changes to a lot of existing models as "facelifts" and try to justify the changes in order to sell more cars, hence trying to brainwash us that the 718 is lower and wider, and that this is what we want.
If we look at the rears...
...the 718's spoiler is a little higher in relation to the top of the lights and now ends more abruptly than the 981 spoiler's pleasing flow into the lights either side. The 718's lower bumper either side of the taller narrower black plastic skirt is also taller than the 981's adding to perceived height. That solid black skirt also adds height.
The rearward facing PORSCHE badge and inset reflectors add further mess (or interest) to the 718's rear making it look cluttered compared to the 981's starker look.
So, personally, I prefer the plainer stylish rear of the 981 but I can understand those who like more going on with the more "in yer face" rear of the 781.
I disagree. Any facelift car must be justified, or why would they change the styling?
The reason for the facelift is 100% to sell more cars. To prise owners out of their "dated" previous versions. The hype which always goes alongside any face lifted car's launch is their "justification".
I call it brainwashing!

If the fact is that Porsche re designed the rear to make it look wider and lower, I feel they have failed. My opinion is It looks more narrow and taller.
But design tends to be a matter of opinion rather than facts.
I am sure I will receive another snappy response suggesting I am some kind of 'thicko' for thinking this, but I don't care! It's Friday and I shall be down the pub shortly talking even more rubbish face to face with real people!
As I say, I like both...though looking at them side by side, the 718 does look a little fussy.
Back to the thread, this wheel/lava orange colour in this vid is quite interesting...though still think Carmine Red is the best.

Ah, I get it now! Marvellous. So Frank and I are liars because our opinion differs from your "facts" and others' opinions. Thanks you so much for putting us in our place and exposing our faulty wiring.
Occam's razor eh...? It's amazing what rubbish you can come up with when Googling. Who knew?
Now... anyone have any more 718 pictures for us to critique?

I love the 718 and will be replacing my 981C with a 718C?
How can I possibly be biased? Hey?????????
I am simply remarking on how I see the design.
Why are you so intolerant of other people who don't share EXACTLY the same opinion as you??

Just keep the banter to this thread and stay away from the 718 Positive Vibes thread please
Just to agree with the Moose (and I have no reason to as he burnt me off another thread), I think the 718 looks squatter than the 981 as per the intent of the designers...well to my untrained eye at least.

I believe the way an object appears to different people is subjective, whether due to badly wired brains, no brains at all, or judgement affected by other external factors. A fact might, for example, be 1 + 1 = 2.
Agreed? No of course not... you carry on and argue. But could I ask that each time you do, to placate those here present, you post a 718 photo?
Here's one...
