The spark plugs are not just simple spark plugs these days, there are a lot of electronics in them that probably have a limited service life due to heat, vibration etc. Porsche don't insist on changing them at 4 years regardless of mileage to "rip people off". Simple fact - if you want to have an ongoing warranty you have to stick to the maintenance regimes. My own car probably won't have done much more than 20k miles at four years old - and I won't quibble over a few £ to change the plugs!
There are very few parts in a car that have remained as simple as a spark plug. There have been changes in materials and dimensions, but there are no electronics. There is no reason to change them before 40k miles bar Porsche saying so - their life is wear related not age dependent.

I assumed he was talking about coil packs, rather than spark plugs? Another 'advancement' that doesn't seem to have decent longevity.
Although coil packs aren't service items at the 4 year /40k service . . .Coil packs aren't really electronic either, though they are linked to OBD system.
This is what i'm seeing, appreciate inflation and all that but just got quoted the following:
Major Service £634 ( website says £615)
Brake Fluid Change £150 ( website says £95)
Spark Plug Replacement Quote on request (model dependant)
Air Bag Check £60
Tyre Sealant Replacement £69
Air Conditioning Service £200
What is the tyre sealant replacement? Is that for run flats?

I've just been through the "year 4" service at OPC,
- My OPC was trying to charge about £50 more per item on your list than the Porsche UK website prices you've quoted. I told them to "do one". The service manager then phoned back and said they would do it for the UK website prices.
- I've got more miles than you but not mega. I told them to "do one" regarding the spark plug change and other add-on items. Reckon I can easily go to year 6 with modern plugs.
- I had the basic service and brake fluid change done. Final cost was £760
- The available saving was only around £200. Not a big difference on a £50k car.
- They said they generally don't see cars less than 5 years old.

No it's the goo you put in the tyre if you get a puncture. It (presumably) has a use by date. Porsche don't fit run flats (thank goodness!).
Last about 4 years. Don't know if everyone bothers with it though, read a lot of the wheel places refuse to refurb a tyre that has had this goo put in it.Hi I would not leave sparkplug change to long, because even on 987 Gen 2 the plugs are so corroded on the end I have had a couple of cars almost snap them or starting to damage the threads trying to undo them. The last one took twice as long to change plugs as Gen 1 just because they are fitted dry at the factory.

Personally I'm quite happy to have 2-year oil changes with my use of the car.

"When the engine is cold, it operates in a mode that richens the fuel mixture, which causes excess fuel to spill down past the piston rings and into the crankcase."
Is that true? I'd say that fuel present in the cylinder will ignite when the sparkplug fires. Before it ignites it may mix with oil on the cylinder wall, thus degrading it... but maybe that mixture is more likely to burn than to run past the rings. Stuff 'running past the piston rings' suggests lack of compression to me...

Good to know.. I don't mind a bit extra, but £150 vs £95 as advertised on main website is a bit of a p**s take.
I took my own oil in for my service at my local OPC. £65 online delivered vs £130 ish i think, SV_WDC said:
I've read before (though never done it myself) that some OPC's allow you to supply your own oil, thus knocking down the cost.

Local OPC are insisting the fee for an oil change will be £150 even though the main Porsche website says £95.
Local indy will do £95.. so may go to them..
Do you mean "oil change" or brake fluid?Local indy will do £95.. so may go to them..
My OPC (Leicester) DP quoted £300 for an interim 10k miles oil & filter change yesterday.
Local indy (GCR) quoted £240 a week ago for the same thing.
Can you post a link to Service costs showing oil change as all I can find is: http://www.porsche.com/uk/accessoriesandservice/po...
...which links to a page showing brake fluid at £95.
sorry brake fluid... knackered at the moment.
Guildford wanted £150 for brake fluid, i've just booked in at Portsmouth instead who are charging prices as shown on website.
