Porsche Warranties (and extended warranties ...)

How long does the Porsche warranty last on new cars? 2 years?

Once the standard expries, what extended warranty options are there? Is Porsche's extended warranty worth it - or do people look to third parties outside of Porsche?

3 years is standard on new cars now, the 3rd year used to be an option but not any more - it's included. If you've owned the car from new, and it's unmodified, then the consensus seems to be that the Porsche warranty is the way to go.

I believe it's around £1000 a year with a small saving if you buy two years at the same time. You can include the breakdown cover too which is around £150ish I think. I'm expecting a £1200 quote for one extra year when my CGTS hits 3 years old.

My car has Zunsport grilles, which I won't be removing, so if I can get the extended warranty I'll weigh things up at the time depending on how the car is/has been behaving!

Why?

Because I know of someone who agreed just this in November on a 981 Boxster.

I warrantied mine in September
1yr £600
2yrs £1180 could be less, the paper works is at home.
You have to have the 111 point check, £180.
if you go yearly the 111 point check will have to carried out each time so 2yrs is a no brainer.
Great if you can get the 111 included, no such luck for me

Porsche Assistance is £169 for 1 year and £275 for 2 years .. transferable to new owner.

I took the above mentioned Porsche Assistance as well... The whole warranty thing is quite an outlay compared to my previous Audi TTS. With Audi it was just go on there website and 5mins later, extended warranty and assistance less than £500.
It is what it is, you gotta pay to play.

Mines up for renewal in a few weeks (at the same time the 4 year service) - should I expect the 111 point check fee to be waived? Or would this require some negotiating?

Try and negotiate it, the 111 check includes a lot of things covered in a service.

Eh, yeah. Including Porsche Assist it was the best part of £2k

The £1190 for the 2 year and £660 for the 1 year warranty already includes 20% VAT. Strange that it is 20% and not the much lower VAT rate on insurance policies generally but seem to recall that this has been discussed previously on here but cannot remember the exact reasoning for 20% and not the lower rate.

The 111 point check requirement is listed at £180 + VAT@20% = £216. It seems this amount can sometimes be negotiated depending work being done at the same time.

Discussing this with my local OPC if you renew in conjunction with a major service they would not charge at all for the
111 point check as it is all covered by the service regime. They would probably do the check for a 50% reduction if in conjunction with a minor service.

It doesn't. You put one year on at Year 3, paying the full 111 point check price too.

You then put two years on in Year 4 at the same time as a major service saving the 111 point check price, two years at Year 6 at the same time as a minor service with a half price 111 point check etc etc.

That still doesn't work for me... coming up three years in May, 35k miles by May, 50k by May 2018 (15k per annum).

It only works if your time related service interval comes before your mileage related service interval. i.e. 10k miles max. per annum.

Anyone looked into non-Porsche alternatives? The Porsche one looks (predictably) expensive, which I might justify if I were doing a high mileage, but at only 5 or 6k a year it's a non-starter for me.
