So I bought a brand new Cayman GTS (2016 production year) about 4 month ago. Got it at $108 MSRP CAD (not USD). And after tax and everything landed at $125 thousand CAD and later on spent $4 thousand to buy a set of winters as well just in case someone in my family needs to drive it for emergency.

It's low. I physically can no longer get into some of my favorite plazas or places or even certain exits at work due to how low it is (do not have that lift function like 911s). I have seen other Cayman and Cayman S roll in with no problem (slowly). I do have an other car but I hate it, and others in my family uses it a lot. Would prefer to drive the Cayman still.

I love this GTS don't get me wrong, but I don't really deserve the car in a sense. I rarely go to back roads that much, and kinda just wanted a cool looking sports car to roll around in and have good sounds and drama(which this NA flat 6 definitely delivers). You could say I don't really deserve the car.

Lately the ride height is bothering me more and more. I'm thinking of either selling it or trading it in and get a Cayman S. If I trade it in I will have a tax cut on the car I'm getting. But most dealers will only offer me 88 to 90 (and maybe 92 to 95) thousand CAD worth of value. And I doubt any second hand buyers would take it unless it's a bargain for them too.
The car only got 3 thousand KM. Brand new and babied...it just pains me to see the resell value being that low.. should I still do it?

Just keep it! If it's on the X73 sport suspension, its low yes, but once you realise its only the bottom of the brake cooling ducts (rubber) and the bottom of the splitter (plastic, not too expensive to replace, and certainly not noticeable when scratched) are getting grounded out, I think you'll chill out and enjoy it more.

Mine grounded out a lot at first, but you learn to deal with it. It's not THAT low!

If you're not enjoying it or able to use it without worrying about scraping it just sell it.

I've often found the wanting is better than having. Now you've got it and it's not meeting your expectations just move on.

Have to agree. If the market is similar to the UK you should get a good price for your GTS, sufficient to easily fund an S to a good spec. Providing you avoid X73 on your replacement (and think carefully about PASM) your ground clearance issues should be much reduced.

Ride height is only part of the problem (with the same suspension options the ride height of an S is the same as a GTS) - the extended nose of the GTS makes it more likely to ground. (In the jargon the approach angle is significantly reduced). So a GTS will be significantly more vulnerable (according to Porsche) than an S at the same ride height.

As said, it's probably only the underside of the splitter guard or brake ducts.

Let them scrape.

Keep it.

Why? He didn't know what a Plaza was? Why would he?

Assuming you're in the USA, and having visited Florida every year for 20 years and enjoyed brief visits to the plentiful "all you can eat" establishments, may I ask with trepidation whether the ride height and scraping has more to do with you, when in it, than the car itself?

No disrespect intended.

Don't sell it, find someone to install this : (or a modified version of it)

Not cheap, but then again, neither was the car smile

Interesting (and useful, if expensive) option. Seems odd that its only available for LHD vehicles.

Hi,,
Just for your info and maybe help with your decision regarding the price of your cayman GTS. I recently got offered 82,000 CAD as trade in for my 2015 GTS ( original list was 103+tax) with almost 30,000 kms.
Like a few others here I'm sure a lightly scraped the front a few times too, not much u can do about and is invisible to see and does no harm.
Good luck with your decision!

It was a rude suggestion but actually interesting.

What difference to ride height does an average weight driver + passenger + 2 cabin size suitcases (10kg each) make to my Boxster. Does PASM make any sort of adjustment?

PASM does not actively change ride height, only damping, but it is 10mm lower than the standard (S) suspension and 10mm higher than X73. GTS was only offered with PASM or X73 so is 10mm or 20mm lower than an S on standard suspension. But, as I've said it's the extended nose of the GTS that is a key issue and whether you can treat it as sacrificial plastic. Given that the apron on my (PASM) S has become partially detatched on a couple of occasions due to grounding, I personally wouldn't want anything more vulnerable. But it comes down to personal sensibilities and where you drive.

Yes, it was your lack of quotation which allowed me to alter the thread flow. Pull your socks up, eh? wink

Lots of Americans are fat by the way. Far too many. Far too fat. Far too much Plaza, sorry Pizza.

Woah thanks guys, lots of replies!
I think im just keeping car. Most of the time its just the flaps scraping however many times getting out of plazas(just think of them as malls, not sure why this word has everyone so tripped up haha). But one time i did have a *thump* sound Ive went to Porsche Enginners to talk about this and to check on my car (was afraid the *thump* sound damaged something) they told me there's zero problems mechanically and told me to rest assure about the bottom getting damaged since the cayman is completely covered. the sounds are from flaps of plastics and even if it were to hit, there would be no problems regardless as long as you're not going crazy. I sometimes wonder if its possible to balance on the speed bump with all 4 wheels detached from the floor haha.

It just seems like i cannot find a good deal. Dealerships are only offering around 90 something thousand CAD. when my expense on the car is 130 thousand CAD....its kind of a huge gap despite the car being 3 month old with pretty much zero miles.
I've posted ads to try and sell it myself. Only received low ballers and people expressing that its too expensive (then why even bother calling me..).
Around my area there's been no second hand GTS for sale. So i simply took my expenses and minus the administrative costs like warranties on trims, and also minus amount of dollars per 1km traveled. Still would have been 10 thousand cheaper than someone buying brand new from dealer, but no luck.

Get it retrofitted with Standard Suspension. Dealer can retrofit 20mm lower passive suspension which means I am pretty sure they can retrofit standard suspension.
