Hi Tim Bo,

Just took out my 718C PDK to have a check. I held it at 2000rpm in 1st 2nd and 3rd gears and did not hear a rattling. The F4T has some interesting nuances in its sound but nothing like a rattling sound that is consistent with a specific RPM. I would call OPC.

I’m on a long term loan of a Boxster 718, and have the same rattle, but I thought it was a feature. I’ll try to stick to 2000rpm on next drive and let you know.

Took it to the OPC . It Only happens when sport exhaust is switched on. They reckon it’s the sport exhaust valves and nothing to worry about ! Interested to know if they all do it . You need the window down to hear the noise !

Well over 10000 miles in my 718S now, sports exhaust fitted...doesn’t rattle at all, anywhere in the rev range. They may be right and the rattle is completely benign and nothing to worry about, but it shouldn’t do it.

I’ve not had this on base 718 with PSE.

Anyone have an answer for this? My 718 has gone to OPC today via Porsche Assist.

I get almost a grinding noise at 2k rpm. Hopefully nothing too bad as missing my car already!

The demo base car I had did it too, going through 2000rpm just as the turbo spooled up.

After my OPC having my car for a week, I have just been informed it is the exhaust actuator and the car will need a new sports exhaust! The wait continues

Would just like to add to this thread that my 2017 2.0 Cayman also does this.

Anyone find a solution? Cars going to OPC to be fixed on 4th of April. Will update thread if they fix the issue.

I got the age old 'our technician couldn't replicate the fault sir'. Will pester them again when it goes in for its service.

Might be a good idea to hop in the car with a service advisor and let them hear it for themselves with you present.

It could well be the exhaust flap. This was a common fault on BMW M cars and the exhaust was replaced FOC. Have a look underneath at the exhaust and give the valve actuator pin a wobble.
