That's the same as for my Cayman last year.

My base Cayman was locked down on Feb 19th. Build was completed on April 24th, 4 days ahead of schedule. Hoping to collect at the end of next week.

Brilliant though isn't it? I am really looking forward to this car - I have so much enjoyed every 718 (and 981 for that matter) test drive. Better check I've still got the money for it!

Daughter is getting married in July so, have told her the wedding gets what is left after the Cayman is purchased. So, could be burger and chips!
She is a Doctor and asked me if I ever plan to grow up? Told her that I have had a look at that and decided that I don't like the look of it!
Much silence ensued.

smile Admirable attitude (but you'll cave, Dads and daughters...)

My mid-life crisis started at the age of 11, and I have enjoyed it immensely for the last 39 years! Luckily have not had any children to inflict it on, but my wife has not enjoyed all of it.

You are right Liam. I seem to be locked into mid life crisis and I like it!
Plus, I do not understand what is wrong with being taken to the church in a Cayman!
GT silver with white ribbons will look great.

Your maths is spot on snorbs, but while my wife got a car for her 50th, I tend to have to buy the dearer things in life for myself.

The real story about my first Porsche is a bit darker. My Dad was a huge fan of the marque, but the only one he ever owned was an '89 911 Carrera 4 (964), and think I probably did more miles in it than him. Loved it. Around the same time my older sister had '78 911SC, but sold it almost straight after a very expensive engine rebuild (DOH! It was a nice car, and wouldn't have needed any attention for ages.) More recently one of my younger sisters had a 996 Cabriolet that my Dad thoroughly approved of. And I loved them much as he did, and drove loads of others as well (911, 964, 993, 924, 944, 928, 968, even a 930), but never owned one.

Last year, May 13th, I was sitting chatting with my Dad in a hospital bed. He was in a post-stroke coma that he was not going to wake from, after a very sudden collapse, and with all 3 of my sisters.

"I've been thinking about replacing the GT86 with a Porsche Cayman. I was thinking a C63 AMG, but they all have sludge boxes."
"We know..."
"We all know!"
"You told him about it on the phone a couple of weeks ago, and he was so excited he phoned us all to tell us."
"Yep, no introductory "How are you", just "Your brother's thinking about getting a Porsche.""

Weirdly enough, the only things that he seemed to have any response to (he couldn't speak or open his eyes, and we weren't sure if we were getting hand squeezes by that stage) was talk of Porsches, and his grandchildren. He died later that night, Friday 13th May.

I knew I had to get one at that point, and set about trying to find a nice recent 981 Cayman in a spec that suited me. By the beginning of July I got to a dealer, talked things through, and realised that if I liked the turbo engine I was probably going to be best off speccing the car I wanted and spending not that much more in the grand scheme of things. Got my order in, later in the summer road tested a load of 718s and 981s with manual and PDK boxes, and then set myself into 8 months of playing on the confounderator every night, followed by lockdown and the wait for build.

I'm most likely going to be picking my Cayman up on May 12th (would have done 13th, but the salesman that has persevered the tragic lack of allocation alongside me can't make it in next Saturday, and I want to shake his hand at the end of all this waiting). Bang on a year after I committed mentally to doing this thing, I will be trundling up the road in my very own Porsche, and I sincerely hope it will be the first of too many.

Obviously I'm not a genuine Porsche enthusiast, because I'm willing to own the turbo 4 despite its incorrect exhaust note and induction roar. But I do feel a hell of an attachment to the marque - it has been an important part of my life.

Sorry, long answer, I got a Berghaus coat for my 50th birthday. Nice one, mind you!

You sound to me like more of a Porsche enthusiast than most Liam.

That's a touching story. Especially with it being exactly a year short of a day since your father's passing when you start your Porsche ownership experience.

Liam, thanks for sharing that story.
I had a tear in my eye as I was reading your post on the train home last night.
Sometimes strange how things in life seem intertwined - my dad's birthday is 12 May... and my scheduled delivery date is my (50th) birthday.

In PH style - should you be posting pictures of your Berghaus coat? smile
I'll settle for pics of your 718.

All the best,
Lee

It's definitely intertwined, if just by the coincidence of being able to afford better new cars when we hit the half-century mark.

Will definitely post some car pics - not sure the Berghaus will be back out until December. wink

What's the birthday delivery date for your car Lee?

We put a deposit down for our Cayman mid Oct 16 and took delivery on Sat 17 June. Managed to sneak in before the price increase as well - phew. Looks stunning Carmine Red, Boxster s 19 inch wheels in silver, painted side intakes and sports pipes. It's going for Gyeon protection this week so will post a pic when complete.

CS manual, deposit mid Dec delivery expected sometime in June.
I was told I would have to wait longer for a base Cayman, 9 people in queue as opposed to one in front for a CS. I'm now next in line ??
When was lockdown?
Did you avoid the price increase?
Late reply sorry

Lock down was 12th April, and turns out my car was only 1 of 5 in build May that were brought forward to MY18 spec. I was expecting to be stung by price rise but OPC is surprisingly looking after me and have discounted the car to give it at original price. So I get extra toys at same price. I didn't even ask.
Happy days, maybe as a new customer they are looking after me?

Anyway, car due end of June.
Well excited

My order was locked down last Friday 16th June

Was told the car will arrive at OPC mid August for 1st Sept reg.

As it's my first time dealing with Porsche I'm not sure if this should be taken with a pinch of salt or not

I'm in the same position, first time ordering. Same lock down date, estimated at OPC last week in August.
