Noobie launch control question
Discussion
Having had a chat with my local OPC engineer he informed me that Porsche performed 50 launch starts consecutively on their anniversary 911 with no ill effects, just to prove a point. I was informed that the launch control starts are nothing like the limited ones on the GTRs etc and can be done with little effect if any on the cars mechanical system, something Porsche are quite proud about.

But how many cars with launch control, which has been used a lot AND have done (say) 50k miles are there? I suspect very few because, with the NA the gains (though real) aren't massive subjectively.
With the turbo engines the story is a bit different. Pull out of a junction smartly and turbo lag does intrude quite noticeably. So I think (if I had a 718) I'd be much more inclined to use launch control (or, in my case LFB) to circumvent the lag.
Pulling out of a junction, do you feel the average owner would have enough experience or dexterity to put the car into launch control mode whilst perhaps missing the opportunity to get going? Also, and more importantly, this situation usually means you're turning right or left so I'm fairly sure launch control would have you launching into a lamppost, a car, a ditch, etc...?
Even in a straight line...

One of the reasons I grew to dislike my 2012 TTS was exactly this "pulling away" issue when you be left behind whilst the turbo 4 pot thinks "Er, what is it his right foot is wanting? Ah, yes, GO!!!!" I was never tempted to use its launch control for fear of lack or control.

Not tried launch control personally - but I wouldn't have any trouble using LFB to achieve the same effect, and I can't see anyone reasonably competent having trouble doing likewise - but I wouldn't do it on a regular basis for fear of clutch wear. Also, and more importantly, this situation usually means you're turning right or left so I'm fairly sure launch control would have you launching into a lamppost, a car, a ditch, etc...?

The only quirk (if you can call it that) of launch control is how aggressively you press the accelerator with your left foot on the brake. If you are not aggressive/firm enough it doesn't recognise you are trying to launch control and the clutch engages and tries to pull you away, but as long as you are aggressive enough it will just hold the revs with the clutch disengaged, the launch lights on the steering wheel, until you release the brake.
