Higher mileage 981 2.7 & 3,4

As depressing as it is that we are talking about 30-50k being "high miles", I am inclined to agree with the sentiment of the above - if you are paying a price that reflects the miles and condition, then no need to worry. If I were buying a like-for-like car and one had 50k miles and the other 10k, I would expect to pay less for the 50k one...but ultimately you could argue that a well maintained 50k miler is a much better buy than a 10k miler that has only been serviced as an when, and only comes out to be hammered from cold on a weekend.
Judging a car by mileage alone is a blunt tool, but it is what it is!

Lets be honest, these are not high mileage, but higher than alot out there.
I would have no problem buying a 40 to 50K miler. Its just maintenance and reliability, more so reliability. Anyone had issues going past 50K or 70K?
Maybe the question is, "Has anyone gone past 50k or 70k yet"?I would have no problem buying a 40 to 50K miler. Its just maintenance and reliability, more so reliability. Anyone had issues going past 50K or 70K?
My 2014 981 2.7 is coming up to 35k miles. No mechanical issues. has never used a drop of oil. Even so, I put another 2 years warranty on it just in case. This can be done with a car bought privately out of warranty so long as it's been OPC serviced and you have the 111 point check done. Best to get the check done by the seller BEFORE purchase.
Or advise him to buy from an OPC with "free" 2 year warranty. Either way the 2 years will give peace of mind whilst the car shows up any major faults.
I plan to run mine 12k per annum for another few hundred thousand miles yet.

There is even an argument that would suggest that buying a car from a main dealer who only carries out two year, 20k services is a risk?
I would rather buy a car from a specialist in many ways with annual oil change completed to keep the engine in good order.
Whichever way you go there is risk.
I sure most reliable owners who know anything about cars would have an annual oil change on a Porsche as this is the only way history would suggest to keep the car protected.
Can you imagine buying a car with 38k having only had one oil change. Stupidity!
I bet Cmoose has an annual oil change........

Thanks Cmoose, thats interesting...
I am doing about 3k miles a year but I am still going to do the annual oil change. I know thats not a lot of miles, but like you I am still going to change the oil.
I have the opc bought filter and will record it in the service book.
Just out of interest, I have had a rear shock go soft. Its knocking the rear right side on country roads so needs to be replaced, a warranty issue which is taking some time to go through. Has anyone had any problems with rear shocks?
Cheers.

Recently bought a 47k 64 reg S. It feels and looks like new, has a few months of manufacturer warranty left and then the 2 year OPC warranty kicks in.
It was a good chunk cheaper than lower mileage cars, even ones around 35k miles that were coming up to first 'big service' time.
I know I'll get less for it at resale time but I'm hoping that's mitigated somewhat by the price I paid.
These cars are proving rock solid at the moment and let's be honest 50k miles is not high mileage when it comes to reliability issues. As they get older it will become harder to find the ultra low mileage cars anyway.
Don't rule any car out on mileage alone. I couldn't be happier with mine

That sounds good. Surprised though that you could find a high miler for sale at an OPC - I thought they restricted themselves to v low miles examples?

It was, and still is, the highest mileage one I've seen for sale via OPC but perhaps it's because they supplied it originally and did the servicing?I'm very happy with it whatever the reason :-)

PDK works amazingly with anything, but have to say with the 2.7 it really shines. I'd love to say I could do a better job changing gear for myself, but the reality is that the best auto box I have ever come across works amazingly when you have the opportunity to work an engine. Haven't lived with one long term, but I reckon it would be a very easy proposition.
