Are you sure Porsche made it? My 997 PDK, for example, is made by ZF. Porsche don't repair those in any way or stock spare parts.

Google. A quick search seems to suggest the G97 boxes are Aisin (presuming manual). Good luck.

How hard was it to strip down? I've got one i'm tempted to repair myself.

I'm pretty sure the same internals are used in an Audi and they will supply the synchros. I can't remember what gearbox model the Audi box was.

@escy my mate has stripped the box down for me he deals with porsche gear boxes all the time, I have managed to get some one to supplie the gears and synchros after a long look and many calls but cheaper than buying the new box

There are two issues; Porsche have not released a rebuild directive for the 6sp 987 box - so most parts aren't available. The second hurdle revolves around the press requirements to rebuild the rebuildable boxes correctly - every dealer had to buy a 40t press to gain transmission repair status - not a minor undertaking. The manufacturer also instructs that running pairs be replaced if the mileage has exceeded 12k - and with 1st and 2nd fixed gears cast on the input shaft it very quickly gets expensive to rebuild any late transmission....

Questions:

How much does a new gearbox cost?

How much does a proper professional rebuild cost?

Hi just an update of where I'm at the new gearbox is about £4,000 from porsche, my mate who is doing the gear box is a pro build as he does boxes for porsche all the time not sure how much is going to cost for the rebuild but it's a mate so won't be retail prices to me, on of my friend works for a zf approved place but deals in commercial boxes i.e. Hydraulic one bit still going to try and speak to zf through his company, I have been speaking to California motor sport who have told me they are 1 of maybe 2 companies in the use that can supply me the parts I need for the manual box, check them out at www.californiamotorsport.net

Has anyone else used this company I got referred to them by rpm motor sport

Hi, I still haven’t had this sorted at the moment, I’ve been away for 6 months but have been trying to sort it out, porsche want £4,200 for a recon box, mine is stripped and the dog tooth is worn, I found a company in California they can do the gear and dog tooth for £2000

I spoke to a few gear manufactures who might be able to do it but need to get a patten to them, other than that is looks like a second hand box,
