Thanks GT4P and 911R
Has anyone on here done this?
Interesting to hear a real world review on whether it's worth losing the warranty
I doubt an OPC can tell if you just add the Cobb, it does not add to the remap counter and you can map it back to stock.Has anyone on here done this?

there must be >30 UK tuned cars as I see cars on Dyno's with UK plates but never seen any one on here post about tunes bar Tim.
I guess people who do it keep it quite so come resale it can be a stock car.
there is a 3rd gear issue with 2016+ cars 2015 pre OCT cars are seem OK as they fully welded the 3rd gear cog or they are splined, cars after OCT 2015 will only have spot welding 3rd gear and they fail, it's not if, it's when it seems but as most cars are garage toys it will need some firm driving to pop 3rd gear on a down shift.
It's hard to get details and owners have not put up a stink like the GT3 boys did with engines, imo there should be a 3rg gear GT4 recall.
Porsche know the issue but it's not out in the public domain what the real fault or number of cars affected is.
In the USA it has been a BIG topic, UK cars have failed also, Porsche will just give you a new gearbox, so a sort of non issue,I would prefer a recall myself as I don't pay for warranty, but I have an early car so should be OK. And if a known fault happened out of warranty I would expect a new gear box still anyway.

I thought the 3rd gear issue affected late build cars ie post March2016 and anything built delivered before Jan 16 is ok? It would be good to know from what chassis number or gearbox number though
It will also affect 981Gts/Spyder as same gearbox

Every time I open the door, I can't help but smile. When my friends get it, they love it too. Who wants to get in and out easily.
You need to get a belkin phone holder for that white iphone cable:
The opening the door with a smile factor is a big one for me. Really sets it apart from other cars and makes you feel like you're in something special. You need to get a belkin phone holder for that white iphone cable:
I have a Kenu Airframe + which I find the best phone holder - nice and neat
The wire I need to feed back into the glovebox - just lazy in this pic lol

Hope it's an inferior sounding car then!
Gen 1 GT3's are on the decline from what I can see - reckon next year £110k picks you up a nice one
I bought my GT4 for £86k so not an astronomical financial leap to a GT3. The engine worries me though. Gen 2 are out of reach for me, but the perfect car IMO especially with a manual!
Yup engine on 991 gt3 2013 cars worth considering although maybe it's all overhyped plus you'd get a warranty maybe . Gen 1 GT3's are on the decline from what I can see - reckon next year £110k picks you up a nice one

Gen you'd need to be on the list I guess

I have not used my GT4 in 2+ weeks now, it's the last car I pick in my line up and the least interesting while maybe the fastest again the least interesting as one cannot hoon day to day at 120mph !
Took the Spyder to classics in the castle and that was a hoot, and ever since I have been using the Cayman R every day, done about 500 R miles this week.
The rain suits the feel in the R with PS4S tyres on and real steering feedback so you can really drive the R on the limit and have a hoot in the showers.
Cup's are st when cold and understeer like a dog, so if you are using a GT4 as a daily and NOT working the cup's it's a bit daft, as the car understeers any way, add in no heat and it's even worse. I am talking "driving" here not London driving the GT4 home ground it seems lol
Be interesting to fit PS4S to a GT4 and see what happens.
I do lol at comments like this mind you ;-)
"it's perhaps one of the most practical cars I've ever owned in terms of ground clearance" wtf !!!
I have to do trick angles to get it off my drive, cannot use multistorys and some car parks with ramps are a no go, also I have some tw4t under take me while I took a speed bump at some crazy angle he nipped by on the inside wtf !
anyway still a great car. crying out for a remap and of course a set up. I saw another GT4 yesterday, his tyres were bent backwards on the outer treads !
LOL how people drive oem is shocking ! just wreaking the poor car.
I call it my posing car as it's the car I take to open days and PH meets and super car driver events lol but I am honest about what it gets used for.
It's the best track car of course but I get the feeling not many see track.
Drivers car though the 987 Spyder in my spec makes my GT4 feel like a luxury daily.
If you are never going to see a track I would say swap the GT4 for a 981 Spyder ! As I have said many times people do seem in the wrong car for the use they give them, but then if it's a lifestyle choice car then no harm in it I guess.
good eurohooning car ;-)

I was at Classics at the Castle in my Spyder. The only other car I saw Was one with ceramics , no radio and silver wheels which was parked pretty much infront of me . I'm assuming that was you ? Took the Spyder to classics in the castle and that was a hoot, and ever since I have been using the Cayman R every day, done about 500 R miles this week.

I'm really not interested in a 'slagging match' with you Mr Demon, 911R, David or who ever you are. I'm just tired of you steam rollering every GT4 based thread with your insistence on telling anybody and everybody how much better your CR is. I really don't care and I'm bored of your comments on the matter.
So, moving on to the point of this excellent thread and my views on the GT4, my GT4. I've owned it for a year, bought it new (one of the last) and have covered almost 5k miles in it. All on road, to date, so my impressions are not track based although I did drive one at PEC.
My car is specced as a usable road car rather than a CS car (I didn't like the driving position of the buckets) so I have the excellent 18 way seats. I LOVE them! They are very comfortable for long journeys, I can get in and out easily and I can adjust them until my hearts content. I also have lots of extra leather (inc. seat backs) and yellow contrast stitching which adds to the quality of the interior. A very comfortable place to be for long tours etc.
Many people complain about the clutch being too heavy, I haven't owned a manual car for several years before the GT4 and not once have I thought the clutch to be heavy. Nor do I find the gearing too long, I know many do but I don't. I do however wish it had a little more power at the top end and a smoother torque delivery. Not a deal breaker by any means but the chassis is so capable that it could handle another 50HP with ease.
The ride comfort is incredible for a GT car as it is very well damped and handles bumps in the road very well, far better than my daily BMW on 20" wheels. The chassis and gearbox are a joy, I love the balance and am happy to concede that I use the auto blip all the time as it does a better job than I can. It's incredibly practical and has carried me and the other half across the cote d'azur in comfort with plenty of space for luggage etc.
Whilst I think it could be used as daily, I choose not to as I require a different type of car for my daily activities. I recon it could be used daily but I think it is best saved for weekend type driving. The only hinderance is probably the front lip.
I was hoping to do a track day or two this year but time has not been on my side. There may still be time though.
In short, I love it! More than my previous two 911's and one of those was GT3 RS. It is the perfect sports car for the road in my view.
Here is me 'not driving' it on Mont Ventoux earlier this year.
Oh, and I've also 'not driven' it in fresh snow up a mountain:

If you fancy a few passenger laps in a rather modified and track focussed (though still very useable daily driver) GT4 ... I'm at Oulton with PCGB in November ?
Busy all October !

Even though the 991 is inching towards a more centrally located engine, it's still a rear engines car. I think that the dynamic differences between the 911 and Cayman will always define each and separate them. I think that this is great as you have the choice of either as a focussed driving tool. It's just down to the preferences of the driver.
There will always be the odd protagonist who denegrate one over the other but in the main Id like think that these cars galvanise together the purist drivers amongst us

So I should be pleased ghat mine was one of the first cars ... good to know, because I am pressing-on ... there must be >30 UK tuned cars as I see cars on Dyno's with UK plates but never seen any one on here post about tunes bar Tim.

Nice car almost identical to my old one . List would have been circa 74k. http://www.gcmotors.co.uk/used-cars/7598554-porsch...
No roll cage but then I didn't spec mine with one

No Sportschrono either
Not an issue, I did not spec it, unlike all other Caymans it's only is a lap timer nothing to do with throttle or anything else. It was an expensive option for a lap timer imo. In hindsight I would spec it for resale on a car which goes for overs, but on your own car it's a nothing option for the money. Gassing Station | Boxster/Cayman | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
