Hi PHers,

I was thinking of changing my car but due to the low mileage and the fact whenever I drive it I smile I've decided to keep it and try and increase my enjoyment, this is where you hopefully come in!

I searched PH forums for information and apart from some very detailed discussion on specific topics like Ohlins vs Bilstein I haven't seen any general observations or suggestions where to focus attention apart from the link below, which basically says don't bother changing anything .... although it is quite old :-)

https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=13...

Does anyone have a suggestion for where best to focus, to make improvements for, aural enjoyment, performance, handling? I realise these are quite general, I am not trying to create a track day car, more something that handles and sounds a little better.

Thanks in advance
Martin

CMoose Thanks very much for the insight, I have read similar comments on smaller wheels previously but did not consider it applicable to a Boxster! I gu we it could be quite an expensive change and I must admit the Carrera wheels are one of the main things that drew me to the car - so I may have to go th Ohlins or Bilsteins route to make a difference.... for handling.

The MC tip is a good one as I must admit although it passes its MOT I do not find the brakes very confidence inspiring and didn't on my previous 986 either.

Thanks for the pointers much appreciated.

Performance wise exhaust and open air filter will help and sound like you are going faster.
The open air filter does sound good on a Boxster as it is right behind you and along with the exhaust it will be like a different car.
This with the larger plenum should give you a bit of a difference.

This switchable sports exhaust would work with the larger plenum and being switchable means you don't have to worry about being to loud.

A remap will fee up the Hp that you have already and will feel the difference

This suspension kit should freshen things up

https://www.demon-tweeks.co.uk/performance/suspens...

You could then look at tyres as something like Michelin PS4 is a very good tyre that will make a difference.

All fitted at the same time it will be like picking up a new car!

You fit all that and still have bad brakes and a car which don't handle lol
I would not go near superchips for a Porsche remap either thay have no clue about throttle bodys etc.

As his car must be quite old I would say spend nothing on it what so ever and use the money to get into a 987.2 car esp has he has a tiptronic, the upgrade would get the OP into a PDK car instead and can be my only advice.

I may have got a bit carried away!
I haven't really been wowed with any Porsche steel brakes so don't really see much point in spending huge amounts on them as pretty much dead money.
If the op is set on keeping it maybe just the exhaust, suspension, decent tyres and what about a 997 brake conversion?
Is that mega money?
On the other hand depending on mileage you may way up the difference between what it is worth and how much you can get into a gen2 2.9 PDK as if the gap isn't much bigger than you have budgeted on modifications then that could be a better bet.

A project can be fun but expensive and it's great on the right car, I don't think a gen one tiptronic is the right car to pump money into a project car.

Like you if the OP wants an Auto I would take a 2.9 PDK gen 2 over a 3.4 gen 1 tip. forget the cost it will pay you back long term.

Revo stage 2 map on my 987.1 3.4 is a worthy addition. Very noticible change in the way the car delivers its power but slightly less refined at low revs.
