Mine's arrived at the dealer and it looks stunning, really happy...and I've not driven it yet!
No denying it, that is a fine looking car. Congrats!

RR - I see what you mean in terms of external appearance.

I know the 981 had the external GTS pack option which is a rare sight on anything of S spec and below, but my 981 also had contrast stitching on the seats and dash.

Is that Teeside OPC? Only seen pics as my local is Silverlink, but certainly looks like it is.

The fronts are more different between S and GTS, as on the 981. The 981 rears are pretty much identical too, bar the diffuser style lower bumper, so it's slightly unfair to only criticise the 718 for the same thing.

The Sports Design bumper kit on the 981 GTS was only available on lesser models very late in the production run, hence you only really see it on GTS models. This is different to the 718 which has had it almost from the start.

Well it looks like the deliveries will start soon.

Anyone else getting theirs from Cardiff?

Seem like a nice bunch from Teeside. I was next to one of their mechanics at the food stop on the Whitby run last summer and he was a genuinely enthusiastic guy. Was definitely the kind of guy I would want looking after my car as he viewed it as a privilege to work on any Porsche.

I think you will find that the white S has the Sport Design pack fitted -which would explain the similarity !!

They both have sport pack, but white one is fully painted, which does it no favours.

I agree it needs the black areas to avoid the back end looking too bulky. I think that this would mean specifying the Sport Design pack painted high gloss black on a non GTS car.

I'm not a fan of the sport design pack from the rear with the painted elements either side of the exhaust. It just doesn't do it for me.

Keep the whole piece black.

My turn to have good news, got email today about my April European collection order for my GTS. Very excited to collect the car whilst on holiday and make a trip out of it!

Next step is to find out the date of the build and submit a collecting date that will work for us.

I had 12 month to think about my spec and im pretty sure thats what i want for a daily drive car so its been a long hard wait, part of the reason was i cancelled my S order in April and said if by Dec still no GTS news i just buy a used cayman S.

only 3 more months now!!

Have a look at the car and driver website performance reviews. From memory, the 2.0 and 2.5 Caymans with PDK and SC are the first sub 4 second 0-60 variants so faster in a straight line that their predecessors. Pretty sure it is Chris Harris' first 718 Boxster S review, where he said if you were in the previous GT4 and one came up behind you, get out of the way. An anecdotal encounter when I had the 718 Boxster S was following a 997 911 Carerra on an overtake ona country road. I was amazed at how quickly I gained on him and had to back off. Certainly didn't feel like there was any detriment in pickup due to the turbo either.

I have a 2.0 Cayman now, can agree with the smoother engine comments plus a nicer exhaust note than the 2.5. I don't a notice a performance gulf between the two. The base model is plenty fast enough, plus considerably cheaper.
Thanks for your help and the others too. Have your 718's been manual or PDK?
We currently have a 2001 2.7 Boxster (for 15 years), a 996 Targa (8 years) and an Abarth 595C (terrific).
The Boxster is beautiful to drive but a little short of power and torque. The 996 is heavier but with much better power and torque. I am quite a lazy driver and appreciate instant torque, we had TVR's from the 70's to early 2000's.

Has anyone else noticed they are offering £1000 deposit contribution on Camyman GTS (https://www.porsche.com/uk/models/718/718-gts-models/718-cayman-gts/finance/). Have one coming in Feb, for delivery in Mar. OPC said they would honour this with their finance - proof would be in the pudding though.

Magnitude gave me a competitive quote too

Good spot on the contribution. Unfortunately it doesn't seem to apply to Boxsters.

Didn't think Porsche did things like deposit contributions. Not saying discounts can't be haggled, but this is the first time I've seen something like that from Porsche.

Would you offer a grand off something that had a waiting list?

According to PorscheGB on Twitter today, Cayster sales are up 6% from 2016 and they delivered 25,000 718s worldwide in 2017.

Odd that they're offering a £1000 contribution if sales are that good???!!!

Like I say, almost always a deal to be done in person, but I have never seen a public 'discount' being offered in this way on a Porsche sports car...or indeed any Porsche car in modern times, tbh.

It has happened a few times. I’m 99% certain there was one on the 981 Boxster at one point as I remember discussing the deal with an OPC off the back of seeing it on the website.

Seen them on Panemeras and Cayenne’s too at various stages of their lives.

As a side note, I remember being told to always discuss “deposit contributions” with OPCs rather than discounts as ‘discount’ is a dirty word in Porsche land.

I think this £1k contribution is more about encouraging you to take a finance option rather than a discount on the vehicle. I was told a couple of months ago by the OPC I deal with that VW group were going to start "subsidising" Porsche Finance options. I have just had an illustration on a lease for a Boxster GTS and the interest rate is 7.4% which is better than it used ro be but still high by industry standards . So even with a £ 1 k contribution, they are still making a tidy sum. It will be cash purchase for me !
