Don't be coming back with a reply that says anything other than " of course they are discounting because they can't sell 718s due to the noise" or we will hear it all again. And again. And again.

Frankly I'm sick to death of hearing the same old noise, nasp, noise, nasp rap whenever the 718 is mentioned. We get it ok - the old engine sounds better to the vast majorityand lots prefer the power delivery. But it is no more and the 718 is still a fantastic car in so many ways including the engine (even though it doesn't sound as good).

Now, even when discounts are mentioned which as someone has already said were available on 981s it must be because they can't sell any due to the engine. Nothing to do with a finance incentive and/or markets slowing and a price hike. Oh no must be the engine. Got to be. What were they thinking? It'll never sell. "I'll always look for a used 981 or keep mine forever and ever and ever. " Great I'm happy you've got the car you want. Why is there seemingly a need to feel superior and demonstrate that you are a "true, real, committed enthusiast " by running down the 718 every time it gets mentioned? It has gone beyond simple criticism and review to an almost knee jerk cultish reaction. For an supposed enthusiasts site it is shameful how people are ready to put down someone else's choice which may be their dream car so tarnishing the car.

Any chance of giving the rap a rest - until the spyder/gt4 at least?

I think you're overreacting "undred orse" - no one has said what you think they have, unless I missed it? I just said it was unusual to discount good selling items, but it turns out it's a finance-taking incentive not a discount. So that explains it nicely.

This is a 718 specific thread which seems to have stayed polite and civil biggrin

Please don't think I was having a go at you specifically. I'm probably just in an exceptionally bad mood rather than my standard bad mood!

I thought it was better to comment and vent here than in the other threads e.g. the 718 discount thread where the usual suspects will just create even more of an argument. As we seem to be largely 718 fans I thought I may be expressing an opinion that others may have formed as well.

Anyway I certainly don't want to take the thread into arguments as I'm looking forward to my GTS and to seeing all the others as they get delivered.

Cool - just checking I hadn't come across as I didn't intended to smile

I'm afraid I'm not a 718 fan, however I do know GTSs well having a 981 that I ordered from new so if I can pass on any useful info re. spec or options then I will smile

Yup - I was simply pointing out it was 'new' to me to see that (and I agree with the post about it being a finance incentive, which makes sense). No dis against the 718 or it's sales success.

Oh and F4T sucks, IDST. biggrinwink

No problems. biggrin

Thanks for the offer. Any tips for keeping the alcantara steering wheel in good condition?

Wash your hands before driving, and no eating in the car biggrin

Simple mild soap and a toothbrush can liven up any matted bits. Alcantara is awesome stuff and very hard wearing.

My OPC tell me my GTS may be here the middle of February. I could do with taking it then. Or should I delay it till March? I have my own plate so not too bothered about having an "18".

It depends - come resale/trade in, how much difference will it make being a 2018/67 or a 2018/18? Regardless of plate, it will still revert to being a 67 or an 18 on resale/trade in.

I know it would make a small difference on regular cars, but have no idea about the used Porsche market in that respect. I know when I bought my 981GTS that the month/year didn't matter a monkeys to me - but then I may be special! biggrin

I am in the same position as I am expecting my car in Feb and have been making same deliberations as I also have a private plate. I have decided for the sake of two weeks ( having been waiting since last August) it is worth waiting to wait until 1 March. Also, by going for that date, if there is some slippage in delivery then I won't be disappointed. I am not sure whether the 67 v 18 plate will make much difference come trade in but it certainly will help rather than hinder trade in value.

PS Just booked my Silverstone PEC drive. GTS is available from 11 Feb

I am also in the same position ......... etc But have not yet made up my mind about this . My OPC thinks it would make no difference to resale values between 67 or 18 plates ....... although I suspect that an OPC would want to release our new GTS's as soon as they have been prepped .

PS. I am still awaiting my Silverstone PEC drive booking .

Having owned a 981 GTS (which I massively regret selling) I've just had a go in a 718 Cayman S prior to ordering a 718 GTS.

I was slightly underwhelmed, but not prohibitively so, based on the fact that I wasn't overly enamoured with the 981 S - The GTS just felt so much more special. So my question is - do we think there will be as significant a difference between S and GTS on the 718, as there was on the 981?

Just how much louder /Bangier (technical term) will the GTS be than the S?

Wanted to buy a Boxster for my wife’s 50th in April. Tested a 981S manual with sports exhaust first today and loved it, the noise....it felt alive. Then jumped in th 718S PDK with sports exhaust. Errrrrr what have you done?
Problem, wife wants Graphite blue which is a 718 colour, so guess what. Ordered Boxster 718 GTS today, arrives 31st Mar. Pretty cool.

I’d have had the 981 all day long but “ it’s for me NOT you” she says , so she gets!

That’s not too long a waiting time.
I was enquiring about GTS order times today, so will see what my local OPC come back with.

If you are thinking of purchasing my advice would be to order sooner rather than later. There are going to be no UK/Europe petrol cars built from end of May to end of September due to emissions testing required by new emissions regulations.

Sure this has been discussed elsewhere, but surely that is a huge financial hit to VAG? Not just in income, but also in stock price.
