would recommend you test drive them first though as they are fixed in position except for forwards/backwards, and some find they sit too high. can be a bit of a pain getting in and out of too until you get used to them.

that said, i have them in my 981GTS and love them. they still put a smile on my face every time i open the door and i find them really comfy too.

So I paid a deposit for the 718GTS(Cayman) yesterday. Its due for an April build spot so shouldn't be too long a wait.
When do these normally go into spec lock down?
I've tried to keep the options down to keep the payments down as it seems that only PDK affects the final residual.
I know its personal but opinions please on essentials I've missed.
Agate Grey(originally was going for GT silver but changed)
PDK,F&R parking sensors, seat heating, power steering plus(wife will be driving it),Wheels in platinum silver and electric folding wing mirrors.
Undecided whether or not to delete GTS on the doors.
Are the basic headlights on these Ok as I was considering the LED lights as an option.
Is the basic interior(Alcantara) upto a nice standard?

Thanks in advance

The lights depends on how often you are going to drive in the dark along roads with no street lighting - personal choice.
One thing I would spec is GTS interior £1200 option so you get Alcantara glove box lower dash section and leather dash and door panels . Not obvious on the configuration tool that you can select this without £2k different colour stitching. You need to decide if it worth it to you?

Thanks
A few mentioning climate control too.
Is the non upgraded A/C pretty basic?

I have a Boxster GTS on order, also for an April build slot and Climate Control is the only spec item that’s playing on my mind a little…. But only from a future resale perspective (especially as our orders will be locking soon).

It’s been debated to death on the forums but here’s my rational for not selecting it…
1: Yes CC should be standard and if it were a £200 or so option I would probably just tick it.
2: All my BMW daily drivers have had CC and I'm not one of those “set and forget” types, I’m always fiddling with it anyway.
3: With the roof open in the Boxster you can’t truly CC anyway + I actually like a constant flow of air at a temp and fan speed setting that I have selected (Winter = Higher heat and low fan setting & Summer = AC and higher fan setting)
4: You still get the fast path max windscreen demist button without CC.

So the real question for me is how much will not having CC impact future resale?

My spec:
Carrara White Metallic
Black Roof
Alcantara® Package GTS in conjunction with GTS interior package in Carmine Red
LED headlights including Porsche Dynamic Light System Plus (PDLS Plus)
ParkAssist (front and rear) with reversing camera
Electrically folding exterior mirrors
Fuel filler cap with Aluminium look finish
"PORSCHE" logo in satin black
6-speed manual transmission
Sports suspension (-20 mm) with PASM
20-inch Carrera S wheels (satin black)
GTS interior package
Cruise control
Speed limit display
Automatically dimming mirrors with integrated rain sensor
Light design package
Heated multifunction steering wheel
Sports seats Plus (2-way, electric)
Seat heating
Smoking package
Sun visors in Alcantara®
BOSE® surround sound-system

PS. Tick the "Smoking package" purely to get the cover for the cubby in the centre console - Makes it look a lot neater.

Cheers,
Joe

I agree with this too, makes a big difference to the ‘feel’ of the interior.

I’d also option the smokers pack - non smoker myself, but IMO it’s worth it to finish the centre console off (you get a lid instead of a cubby hole on the centre console)

Having previously had the cubby hole on my 981 BGTS and optioning the smokers package for my 718 CS I don’t think I’d bother again, the open cubby hole was infinitely more useful!

I just know I’ll fill mine with loose change for parking - so like the clutter out site smile

I've gone for the standard interior but would have considered doing this had I known. I don't think it'll detract from my overall experience too much though, especially given it's my first Porsche and I've gone for most of the 'functional' options smile

I went for the smoker's pack too. Although the 12v socket does significantly reduce the cubby-hole's change carrying capacity, I just thought it looks tidier

Having just sold an S without the smoking pack I have ordered it on the GTS.I think it finishes the look much better and the open space was pretty useless anyway.

As far as climate is concerned I can see the use in a Cayman but not the Boxster - unless you have the roof up most of the time. Mine is a weekend and fine Fridays car and as long as there is no rain and its over about -2 the roof is down, heated seats and heater on and away to go. In those circumstances I want to be able to set my temperature and fan speed so climate is useless. I didn't miss it at all on the S although it has been in the last few daily cars.

Hi all,

Bit of a lurker turned member here.

I've got an order for a Cayman GTS - hopefully delivering in May. Here is the spec if anybody fancies a look: https://www.porsche.com/microsite/porsche-code/def...

It will be my third factory ordered car... went from a Peugeot RCZ when i was 22 to a Mk3 TT at 25 and now changing up to a Cayman at 27. I've kind of gone up through the range of two seaters (the seats in the back of the RCZ and TT don't count), without counting an MX5 smile

Must thank everybody as reading through the forums has helped a great deal and I look forward to participating in some of the chat around here.

Cheers all,

Snashers

That's a lovely spec.

You have everything there that I think you need on the GTS. The black door handles are a great touch and look really good on the guards red.

Guys I’m after advice from existing owners of caymans, whats your recommendation on running the engine in . The dealer said no need! What’s your experience steadily increasing revs over the first 1k with no constant revs ? Or just making sure its at operating temperature before high revs? Whats your experience with oil consumption ? And would you recommend oil changes every year?

I recently traded in my amazing 991.2 GTS as I wanted to release some funds for other projects and I loved the GTS spec and Crayon colour so much I decided to order a 718 GTS Boxster in the same spec and colour. I placed my order on 6th January and my delivery date is expected to be 16th March code PJGQVW11

People always advise to keep things gentle for the first 1500 miles, so revs under half Rev range for first 1500 miles so no full acceleration and also no hard braking (where possible) while people say not to in my mind I always have and wouldn’t buy a used car ever as I’d be concerned if someone hadn’t run it in as I would.
Saying all that someone also once told me (Porsche tec guy) that every so many engines that come off the build line are run for many hours at full rev range as a quality check, I trust and hope they don’t ever get put into a car after this but I bet they do 🤢

There really isn’t any difference between having climate in a cayman or Boxster, climate is about setting a temperature and leaving it for 95% of the time. I never change the temp on my Boxster, unless it’s a very cold day, like today and I have the roof down, and ramp up the temp.

It’s a luxury car, it should have climate, it’s so much better than bog standard fan speed which you have to constantly mess with.

I would never order a car without it.

My car is a daily driver though, not a garage queen. wink
