Well, can you tell me what other engine Porsche has that rev's to 9K?
Good point, so they have a mule with the GT3 engine in it smile Like I said though, it doesn't mean it's going to be made into a production car. The GT4 is a gateway drug not a premium product so a RennSport version doesn't quite sit right in the range for marketing purposes.

As a similar example, Porsche made a 928 convertible back in the day but it never made production: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-2zV0SXh3so

I think a decision has already been made but they're not sharing it at the moment. With regards spy shots, the Speedster ones are clearly ones which have been staged by Porsche, therefore i think the fact that we havent seen GT4RS ones is down to Porsche not wanting us to see it yet.

If it is to be built i guess we will start seeing spy shots in August/September of this year.

Fair enough. I guess not too much longer to wait then either way!

With regards mules the first one of the 718 GT4 appeared around November last year, so not 18 months. Although there was a 981 GT4 mule which appeared around 12 months ago which was rumoured to be a RS model testing.

The 981

The 981 GT4 mule appeared around June/July 14 with launch in Feb 15, so there is still plenty of time for mules to be seen.

Also with the rushed launch of the .2RS, it shows that the guys at Porsche can get things done pretty quickly if they wish to do so.

That was the mule with extra foam in the wheel arches if I remember rightly. Bit of a stretch to say it was the RS IMHO, just a chassis testing mule and the beginning of the 718 GT4 testing program I suspect.

I agree that was not the mule, but a mule does exist according to the guy on Rennlist, we just havent seen it yet.

Who is to say we haven't seen a GT4 RS testing yet? It's not like they're labeling the cars as they turn them loose in the public. Nurburgring testing isn't a must at this stage of the game...nobody gets to see what runs around the track at Weissach.
The Rennlist poster has said he has seen the car, and also said that it is the best car to come out of Weissach in a long time, and that's including the GT2 RS...

Yep, either of the two main GT4 mules we've seen could have the RS engine - we just don't know. We haven't seen one with more aggressive aero though, which would be a part of any final RS version I suspect. If one was coming soon, like cmoose says, we'd need to see something that was obviously it in the next couple of months max. I seem to recall we saw the 991.2 GT3 RS mule prior to the 991.2 GT3 launch.

Yes, i saw that. If thats true and it as limited as you say there are going to be a lot of customers fighting over this car.

That's probably part of the problem - it would basically be a cut-price road-going RSR! Hard to pitch that as an entry level GT product...

Maybe the ultimate widowmaker IS a road version of the 911 RSR... there has been a bit of noise about this.

I believe the "Widowmaker" is the track-only GT2RS based Cup car, or whatever it is, that was running around Monza with the GT4CS...

Somewhere quite a a while ago I read about a "different platform"....as it related to a GT4 RS....I don't remember where, but it was someone posting on a forum. It's common knowledge that the RSR uses a Cayman bulkhead to make it a mid-engined car, and I wonder if this has a bearing on what's happening on the GT4 RS...

And then there's this, posted by Whoopsy on Rennlist - "It was really something to see a RSR opened up next to the GT3R. Still can't believe they got away with the mid engine RSR. But then again one could argue the 911 and the Cayman is really the same platform hence interchangeable."

I'm not good at riddles, but there's a reason this was posted...

Well, it's not a problem if cmoose is correct about his "swan song" notion...

As I understand it the Cayman really is just a 911 with the engine moved, so the RSR is actually a Cayman.

The key point is he ordered one direct from Weissach, which indicates it's a race car/track car and not a road car.

A road-going 911 RSR would be quite something. Would solve the problem of GT4 RS position in the model hierarchy as well. The mid-engined RS car becomes the ultimate in the GT line-up - what a way that would be to leave the 991 platform.
