A German guy on Rennlist is now reporting a Weissach presentation on the upcoming GT4 Clubsport. A last minute change means the car will have the current 3.8ltr but with the X51 (991.1 GTS) tuning applied, and 420bhp.

My interest may be sparked again...
and as posted earlier on PCGB forum.

More interestingly for me is Jens Ehresmann has confirmed on pff forum.

Yep, it certainly is.

The only question is how the GPF affects it...

Will the 718 Spyder get the same suspension / brakes as the GT4 this time? After driving a GT4 and other hard top cars I realised I miss the open top experience, so a 718 Spyder if it does have the 3.8 @ 420hp and manual would be pretty epic proposition.

on twitter yesterday a GT4 was posted again and they said it sounded turbo !

And last minutes changes back to a 3.8 from a bespoke built new 4.0l which was 100% a given so every one said !

It all sounds hogwash as the Rennlist post was 2nd hand info as normal !

So in a day we are back to the same 3 engine as 12 months ago

1: a turbo F6 motor as reported yesterday
2: a 4.0l motor as reported for ever
3: a 3.8 x51

all rumors as it stands.

The video of the Spyder at the ring and CS at Imola or Monza (cant remember) did sound turbo(ish). But I'm hoping that's just the fuel particulate filter.

Anyone's guess.

And to further fuel this conspiracy, my OPC sales guy has heard from a reliable source that the new Spyder is going to be a Turbo.Porsche are really struggling ATM on getting their NASPs to comply with the new WLTP regs.

981 full model range gets no where near 9K rpm and I don't think anyone could say they sound turbo!!

Here's a thought...

Under the rules, can the new Clubsport car race with an X51 981 engine if they sell the car to customer race teams? The homologation car is the 981 GT4 and I I assume homologation rules allow cars up to a certain age to be entered into the GT4 series. Would the engine tweaks be allowed under the rule book?

If so, then the updated race car doesn't have to bear any relation to the new road car i.e. the new road going 718 GT4 and Spyder can be turbos.

So the car itself has to go through WLTP certification regardless of the engine in it.

I don't understand why they don't use the 4.0l as surely that can be made to hit 420 even with GPF?

Or do they need new a completely new inlet and exhaust etc. to do so, in which case the X51 is ready to go.

Cost and marketing considerations have to come into play.

Personally i think shoehorning the 991.1 GTS X51 430HP motor into the 718 GT4/Spyder makes perfect sense, both from an engineering and cost/marketing POV..Lets hope its what it lands up with..

Has now been shown to teams. Can’t confirm the engine. Will likely be even more expensive than the last one!

Hope we get some news soon. Got my name down with two OPC.
If it's turbo, I may just grab a used GT4.
