The sooner the better as patience is not my thing but as I have a 981 Spyder not to bad a place to be! Just added 2 years Porsche warranty
for peace of mind although likely to garage over the winter with very limited use. Was hoping for Paris launch then LA launch let’s see .......

But the new 718 GT4 and Spyder will be for the lucky few direct from Porsche or minimum 10k overs from the flippers so don’t expect the existing one to drop 10k over night
Widely anticipated the initial flipped GT4s and Spyders will be c£110k minimum.

Won't really affect the 981 GT4 and Spyder prices for at least 18 months.
If the 718 GT4 isn’t naturally aspirated it’ll have an instant impact...I am still not convinced turbo charging isn’t a possibility.

I agree.

Press release sometime between now and Christmas, physical cars first seen at Geneva, first deliveries next summer.

That allows the race car to be released in time for the ROAR in the US in very early Jan.

I’ve no real desire to get into this, and I have no inside info to share.

But, this seems to have taken a very long time indeed to decide, as evidenced by the length of the thread. Sure Andreas P yadda yadda, but it looks to me like they have at least two mules out there and at least one is a turbo. Have they really decided yet...?

If it’s turbo then I think 781 prices are safer.

Perhaps they’ll release one of each smile

It won't be a Turbo, just a fettled version of the old 9A1 3.8L 991.1 GTS unit..My best guess will be 420PS(415BHP) which will be above the other 718s and below the 992s.

Spoke to two OPC's over weekend, both said de-tuned 4.0L.

OPCs don't know any more than we do. My Sales Associate admits I tell him more GT4 info than Porsche does!

Turbo based on a few people on the internet saying it sounds turbo... all I can hear is gas rush out of the exhaust which you usually get when it’s restricted by either diameter or something else. Like a Gasoline Particulare Filter perhaps.

I can’t for the life of me remember where it’s written, but in one of the many reviews of the 718, the Porsche guys mentioned that a turbo 6 wouldn’t fit. Part of the decision to go for the 4 pot was the fact the turbo could sit in the vacated space of the two cylinders. Given that in the 911, the turbo’s nestle in the rear bumper pretty much, I’m inclined to believe it. That would basically be in the bums of the passengers in a Cayman body.

I’m pretty confident the car will be a slightly enlarged (4.0) NA which isn’t the GT3 engine, probably running either 400 or 410PS. It’ll still redline at 7500rpm and it will probably still be slightly hamstrung by long ratios....

I’ve been following this thread and haven’t been able to contribute but I like reading your posts.

How old is the 3.8 engine with power kit that’s being talked about? Is that really a viable option? Personally I’m hoping for the detuned GT3 engine but understand the implications for using it in the Cayman.

I remember on a bmw forum people were adamant there was no way the S55 would make its way into a M2 because it would eat into M4 sales but it happened.

Last week the M2 was spotted testing with a muffler design similar to that on the upcoming M3 sparking rumours of the S58 appearing in the M2 in the future.

Porsche should have no problems shifting the new GT4 with whichever engine they use but I can’t see myself buying one unless it’s NA. I can’t see it being a bad car either, as someone previously mentioned there’s never been a bad GT car but I’m just not after a turbocharged car

All I can say is that we are beyond the point where it is sooner than anyone thinks and rather in line with what most people might have guessed (or later).

Still, think NA and manual will be the way to go for the new GT4.

Amazing, that made me laugh out loud. Best delete the whole thread in that case, no hard facts from anywhere, even the insiders could be wrong, who knows. laugh
