Agreed - I think the 718 GT4 isn't going to be as much of a looker as the 981 GT4....

Interestingly timed release, reminding us of the essence and purpose of the original....
I like the big number on the bonnet. Retro cool. Good for the summer trip to Le Mans.

This current test mule certainly looks a tad fussy at the rear. Surely this isn't the fully resolved version yet?

I just love the way all these "spy shots" have been taken of the GT4 going to and from the Nurburgring and even on the Nurburgring but nobody thought to take a video so we could hear the engine. Amazing isn't it....

Playing the guessing game on whether the new GT4 will be turbo or not. 2nd hand prices haven't really budged and I don't wanna buy one 1 month before the new model is announced with a 9000rpm screamer in the back that causes 981 prices to tank. Sounds like everyone else is just as uncertain as well.

A turbo GT car would surely be sacrilege, but a GT3 engine in a cayman would also very much break Porsches track record of hobbling it just enough to stop it becoming a competitor to the 911.

GT4 is a great car now, just buy one, it's one of the great cars and you get to enjoy summer 2018 in it.

Not sure why people hold off, prices are firm. plus the new car will be more ££ and getting one will be bloody hard as always.

I would expect the car to be called either only "GT4" - or "Cayman GT4" - as the marketing blurb when they moved to the four pot was that 718 is a reference to the historic 4 pot car

Prices won't 'tank' either way, IMO

It's a genuine GT Porsche NA manual - there aren't many cars that compare from any other manufacturer

One of the last of a dieing breed as everything goes turbocharged

Tank is definitely the wrong word but the market is still clearly full of speculators while there is uncertainty.

not in the GT4 market now why would a speculator be interested In the GT4 now !

it's the best value GT product on the market atm imo.

No longer have my Gt4 so no conflict of interest. The 981 Gt4 is a circa £80-85k all day long no matter what unless global/UK economy melt down. I do however think the cars priced in the £90s are overpriced I mean is a half cage and ceramics worth ££££ more than a car without!
As for a new Gt4 if turbo then current model prices will be secure if it is a gt3 engine of some sort then prices will start with an 8 maybe a 9 and not a 6 like former car and most will be in the secondhand arena for in excess of £100k and with limited supply new prices of the current car will still remain firm!
At £80k the current car is a cracking buy even if it's poverty spec!

My bad, by speculators I am referencing the examples with 500km on the clock that have been for sale for 12 months that haven't sold yet here in Aus. Definitely wouldn't be buying one right now for gains & i'd be hitting the racetrack within days of picking mine up personally so I can forget about it appreciating.

I agree with this, particularly the use of the word 'much'. Depending on how the OPC plays it, you may find a short term dip in values of the old model since you hear stories of people only getting a new GT4 on the expectation that they will trade in their old one...so the market may see a sudden rise in supply of the 981 GT4 (all relative of course, so don't expect hundreds to flood on to the market) but for that reason I would expect a small correction in the values of the 981 GT4.

Will they tank? Not at all.

What is probably highly unlikely but worth mentioning anyway, but there may be a situation where the new GT4 does not quite retain the magic of the current one and values of the 981 actually firm back up again. Although I do think that is a stretch - it's not like the 718 GTS compared to the 981 GTS, for example.

because something else came along which I wanted to try, I have sold many a great car, CSL, NOBLE, R, GT3 etc etc
So 92 cars in I still want to try things plus I had it longer than most cars >2 years :-)

I would not rule out owning one again.
