The 718 GT4 might be arriving sooner than you think!

If they’ve had to develop a new engine, even if it is based on the old MA1, it’ll be more expensive. It’s not just a Carrera S engine off the shelf this time. Also gives them an excuse to hike the price.
£90k with options I think. So what £75-78k base
All guesswork!
I am not sure that the production cost of the new engine will be higher, certainly they'll have the vehicle's development costs. Hasn't the 991 generation GT3 engine crankcase (and 991.2 and 718) moved to softer alloy and ion plasma coated cylinders for lower cost and reduced friction? You can get to 4.0L with same bore using the 997 base crank design and different rods, so perhaps the engine is a "relatively" simple evolution of the old Carrera S 3.8L adopting latest spec castings.£90k with options I think. Who knows and I guess that the GT3 991.2 only increased £10k in price with a newly developed engine so perhaps we will be lucky and it'll be £70k base plus options although there have been some shifts in economic circumstances since then.It won't be silly money for sure and there will be a bun fight just because its going to be a very good car never mind those wanting to make a profit.

What newly developed engine......?

the 991.2 engine over the 991.1 engine.

It's a tweaked variant of the old engine not a 'newly developed' one....
Along with the meaning of life... the second most important question is ....How many parts have to be changed to call an engine, a new engine? If they have a different designation?

'Triggers broom' not applicable here!If they have a different designation?

What constitutes a 'new engine' ? The MA2 I would assume would have been toughened on internals ie liners to take the increased power from turbos, the engine has also been designed to allow 4 and 6 cylinders and various capacities, so while the basic casing, valve train etc may remain as before is it a new engine or a tweaked MA1?
Porsche are very good at improving what they already have, each generation gets improved and tweaked. But as others say technically the engines basic platform remains the same.
The gt4 should end up being one hell of a good car for its price point, I think the demand will be higher than the last model.

Surely not £90K, even Porsche would find it hard to justify a 40% price rise over previous car.
Wouldn’t be for me for sure at that number.....
Porsche typically don't do that. They are modest when they bring out a new iteration - modest in power upgrade & modest in price increase. I doubt very much the 718 GT4 base price will touch £80K. Wouldn’t be for me for sure at that number.....

Agree. I think a price incremental in line with the 992 compared to 991Gassing Station | Boxster/Cayman | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
