If they want to compete with the latest GT4 cars it’s going to be expensive - north of 200k entirely possible, making it more than a 991 Cup. Stupid money.

No longer have my Gt4 so no conflict of interest. The 981 Gt4 is a circa £80-85k all day long no matter what unless global/UK economy melt down. I do however think the cars priced in the £90s are overpriced I mean is a half cage and ceramics worth ££££ more than a car without!
As for a new Gt4 if turbo then current model prices will be secure if it is a gt3 engine of some sort then prices will start with an 8 maybe a 9 and not a 6 like former car and most will be in the secondhand arena for in excess of £100k and with limited supply new prices of the current car will still remain firm!
At £80k the current car is a cracking buy even if it's poverty spec!
Absolutely this.
This was the logic that caused me to buy a 981 GT4 this week. Yes rumours of new model but as don't own a collection I'm never going to get an allocation new, but in a couple of years might be in position to get next version 2nd hand or something else.

I'm coming from 1M which was replaced by better on paper M2. 1M values have settled above and around new with options prices. They were at their lowest when cars were six months old when some cars were mid to high 30's. However solid since even with mileage. Don't see why GT4 would follow different pattern (Edit or so I hope!) .

Our friend Georg Kacher in “Car” claims the next GT4 will be announced in March. No details on specification but he does tend to be in the loop.

I just love the way all these "spy shots" have been taken of the GT4 going to and from the Nurburgring and even on the Nurburgring but nobody thought to take a video so we could hear the engine. Amazing isn't it....
May be because it’s a flat4 sound

GTPorsche magazine today:

"AP has confirmed the Spyder and GT4 will be powered by naturally aspirated 6 cylinder engines"

"4 litre, somewhere above 400bhp"

New gearbox, likely a six speed manual"

"PDK seems unlikely"

This isn't aimed at you Twinfan for the record: smile

God really?! I never knew that, I was convinced it was going to be a 4 cylinder turbo!

You wait, we'll still see the unconvinced!

New G/Box is because it so closely linked to the GT3 probably.

Ha ha! There will still be unbelievers!

The new gearbox is probably due to the failures on the old model, but more so the increased torque from the higher output engine. The 718 GTS manual cars have reduced torque as I think they use the old 981 'box, same as the base and S models:

https://www.topgear.com/car-reviews/porsche/boxste...

"Tell us about these new GTSs, then

For starters they get a little bit more power – their 360bhp is 15bhp more than a Cayman S or Boxster S and 35bhp more than the old, six-cylinder GTS. Cars equipped with the excellent seven-speed PDK transmission get a whopping 7lb ft more torque, whereas manual cars have the same 310lb ft as the S"

That Rennlist poster seems pretty convinced but as has been said, why the spy shots and why am I being told differently from my masseuse?

Not long till we find out. All this speculation is tiring and pretty bloody annoying.
In all honestly the new GT4 is going to be very much like the last one but possibly a lot more expensive.

You wait, the old one will become an instant classic and a bargain at that... Buy now or you might have to sell a few bitcoins to get in one!

The 718 manual gearboxes are G82.00 and G82.20 v G81.00 and G81.20 for the 981 series, and still there are reports of losing 3rd gear.

So new boxes but they can't take the extra torque? That's a bit rubbish.

It's common knowledge that the GT4 was and still is exceptional value for money AND probably the most sought after non-911 modern Porsche built (excluding specials like 918 etc obviously) but lots were built and there will always be a good selection for sale hence why I think they won't go any higher. Another production of GT4s and we could be looking at up to 1500 cars in the UK, built over what, 4 years? First 911 GT3 was built in 1999 and up to 2010 I doubt there are any more than 1000 cars (UK)? I don't think people realise how much GT production has and is increasing.

Funny that my old 6 cylinder has 340bhp, I do wish that magazines would check their facts.

I reckon if the new one uses a detune 4.0 then the 981 values will take a hit and if it uses a 4cyl then the 981 version prices will harden; another 3.8 and slow depreciation of 981 gt4 continues as usual.

Great post Phooey, you make sense in what you say. Porsche car production has increased massively compared to pre 2010.
