The more I look at it....

The more I think I need to move to a different car than GT4 to replace my 981 GTS.

Honestly is it really worth £40/50k on top of my GTS?
My thoughts exactly.

I've got a very, very low chance of being offered a build slot as I only run one car and I refuse to pay overs so it's probably a moot point for me anyway. However, in the world where I get offered one I'd have to REALLY want it to justify spending the £40k to change from my GTS. It's a heart versus head situation for me for sure.

I think the Cayman-6 might be more my thing actually (no wing) and it'll probably be a bit cheaper.

On value difference to a GTS its difficult to rationally justify but when it comes to cars we tend to make decisions with the heart, or I do. I will trade in a lovely 981 Boxster and buy a Spyder at more than twice the price. It’s not twice the car but I know I can’t stop myself.

Agreed, a few RS design cues doesn't mean the GT4 follows RS ethos, the strongest RS cues are a motorsport engine, minimal sound deadening, carbon panels, 'standard' cage, etc. The GT4 has none of them. It's a fast road car design throughout but a fantastic one at that.

Agree with the comment above - having had / driven many iterations of the RS and GT products, I found the GT4 to be one of the best road packages. Perfect for road trips, touring and Sunday morning B road blasts. There are better track tools but as a road car it takes some beating.

I'd say that applies to any well specced Cayman, not just the GT4.

Off topic slightly, but saw my first 718 Cayman T last night.
It was in guards red with the black accents, and I have to say it looked absolutely sensational on the road.

They're a good looking car, but if you fully spec one up with all the good bits they come out in the high sixties! yikes

The 718 arse end is an abomination to me, but each to their own!

I agree it'll be a great car if it makes it to production.

Disagree on the 981 though - angles are awesome. Must be the scientist/mathematician in me wink

And that wing looks so aftermarket!

It will depend on final price I guess...
Agree on the wing which imo looks even more a Halfords tack on than the 981. The end section fins from a side view unfortunately also add to the rather more bulbous rear end same as the 992.

Also prefer the 981 front end and it will be interesting to see whether the probable lower stance makes the car more prone to grounding hence less usable as lift once more won't be an option.

Darker colours could be the way to go.

Still reckon on £75k basic but likely £2k PDK option for later cars. Unless PDK 'S' like the GT3 probably not worth it imo.

v my personal opinion... so I disagree.

Tell me - how high revving or motorsport derived the 964RS, or 993RS engine was... or if there was a PDK in sight?..were they not RS?

RS is not just defined by those items. I didn't call the GT4 an RS... Just that it channels some of cues from those cars - with some of its more skunk works elements.

Very true. Nothing RS about the GT4 at all.

Sounds like rose tinted spectacles already!

981 GT4 is ok as a package but that's about it furthermore I distinctly remember you complaining when the car was announced about the strangled C2S engine and how much you reckoned it should have been fitted with a higher revving higher tuned smaller capacity engine. This has always been my gripe with the car too.

There were quite a few cancelled orders including several Phers when potential customers learnt about the disappointing engine in the 981.

Wise words. Have been saying similar ever since I’ve had mine. It’s the GT sweet spot for fast road / touring etc with a massive dose of track capability thrown in. Just driven mine home from Goodwood in the dark, on empty roads with the windows slightly cracked. Mega!

That sums it up perfectly. Last week myself and a group of friends drove from the U.K. to Spa, had 2 days on track and drove back afterwards. There were 3 GT4s a Cayman R and a few others. At Spa there were quicker cars but I wouldn’t have swapped for anything else apart from the new GT2RS.

With the Speedster set for reveal at New York motorshow, only chance to see the GT4 remains Goodwood as cannot believe Porsche will introduce both in New York.

Although my salesman told me end of the year...

It looks f***ng good to me in this video, much better than in pictures!

And now I am more sold with white as colour, it really gives an aggressive look with black lights and intakes.

Almost getting from 0 to 8 level of hype.
