Some people do make me laugh the gearing it's the same gearing as the 3.4 981 which is even worse matched to that engine yet don't hear many complain ! same for the engine it is the same as the 981 spyder yet again no one complains .
Personally never had a problem with the engine or gear ratios ,but yes would have liked shorter ratios and an engine which was less restricted but I would choose a Gt4 over any other 981/991 bar a gt3 manual of course!

I now own a 991.2 GT3 but I have to say that there are some very spoilt people on here if you think the GT4 isn't a very good car.... and if not as good as you were hoping then what the feck were you hoping for?!

The GT4 is a great car and at 65k you simply can't compare it to a modern GT3, even a 997 GT3 really although it gives a good comparison.

It is what it is and its bloody good at it.
There are also some awfully sensitive owners who can't seem to accept that not everyone else necessarily thinks the gt4 is the best thing since sliced bread (whether at £75k or otherwise given most cars would be specced to that kind of price if not more). Wouldn't buy one again whatever the price and had I been able to test drive the car, would never have bothered to have bought it in the first place.

Good car yes, but not what I was hoping for to be a keeper and it pretty much took the 30 mile drive back from the OPC after collection to realise I'd made a mistake and I had no interest in keeping a car purely to take up garage space just to be able to p/x it back to the OPC at a crap price in the hope to get the allocation of the next must have thing.

And as for what I was hoping for - a car that felt less clinical and was more connected to drive. Oh and since you're asking, one with better feel to the steering with hot tyres on track, better top end to the engine, more oem adjustment to the camber in the front so you don't bin front tyres after 2 trackdays would be also be nice.

To be fair a proper geo and some adjustable toe links transformed my GT4.
Engine also frees up quite a lot with more miles.
Steering also quite good for eps over any other eps car I have driven.

I did not give the GT4 a glowing review after pec and I also was tempted to sell up early, but the car has great potential.

It's better in every dept over a 981 Spyder which has many more shortcomings I can assure you, but yes every one loves the Spyder so it is odd people’s views.

But it’s better in every single dept over a 981 Spyder.

So not much to say bar a lot of people are talking poo poo and reading too much into the name and not the drive.

Spyders a better car because it’s not expected to be a GT car lol. That’s funny.

Try owning and driving both over an extended period and you will then perhaps be better qualified and able to report back and give a valid comparison instead of the usual repetitive armchair expert guff which we are all tired of hearing.

Anything forthcoming on the custard proof you were going to post on the 12 GT3s at your OPC? lol. coffee

How many miles have you done in a 981 Spyder? Its a little bit more involved than a game of top trumps.
As someone who has driven both, done 4k in Spyder and 1k in the GT4, all I will say it I went towards the Spyder every time both were sitting there. Nuff said!!

I use my cars day to day, has noting to do with on paper crap.

The electrics are too basic, the p-zero cannot really cope with the 3.8 in those sizes, the pse on sounds chavy. The gear shift is not quite as solid, the steering has far less feedback, the brakes are over servo assisted. You cannot open the f***ing boot. The ride is far worse.

Let’s not even talk about track use :-) when PTV has to work over time to make up for the p zero st oem tyres so the car eats rear disks. And nothing is really adjustable.
So it eats front tyres as well as rear disks !

I have ran a GT4 over 2 years and run a Spyder as a daily, the GT4 is a much better car in every department.

I cannot see or work out what is better regarding the Spyder, yes it’s a great car but a GT4 is a better car.

Bar the exhaust which you either love or think is stupid pumping in extra fuel, what do you like about the Spyder more .?

I can name a couple of things but I will be interested in hearing why you think it’s a better car first.

Try owning both lol give over ffs.

..... I call custard on the speedo read outs of your cars Mr armchair driver.

You talk a lot of talk, you don’t track anything, and I bet the miles are very low on your cars.
Give up on the GT3 number thing it will catch up with you and again you will be proved totally wrong.

He has no experience whatsoever with a 981 Spyder and everyone knows this by the incessant and inane armchair drivel he posts about the car. In his last post he even confused his 987 with a 981...bless!

Sounds like he needs a new crack pipe for Christmas. biggrin:

My much requested custard proof on his ridiculous 12 GT3s allocation on the second run at his OPC has ......surprise surprise ....come to nothing.....more drivel....and this is clearly simply a vain attempt at retribution following his inability to get a car!

Anyway enough of this and back to the 718 GT4.

Calm down guys, it wouldn't do if we all liked the same - or drove cars the same way.

All I would say to those bashing the GT4 gearing, steering, engine or anything else is to take a look:

It surely isn't that bad a car!?

I was under the impression that 911R had recently swapped his GT4 for a 981 Spyder (which seems odd given the comments in this thread and countless others on this forum and elsewhere) or am I wrong?

I feel i need to defend all this GT4 bashing..I can't recall many cars in recent years which has received such universal acclaim as the GT4 did and especially easily winning EVOCOTY.I owned one for 18 months and 3600 very enjoyable miles .People seem to forget its a £65k car with say £10k options and at that price point it wiped the floor with all its peers.
I only sold mine to secure my GT3 allocation and i'm pleased to say its gone to a great home but i can see myself owning another sometime in the future to complement my GT3..Porsche GT dept are engineering geniuses IMO and can do no wrong yet you know what they say..''You can please some of the people all the time and all of the people some of the time but you can't please all of the people all the time''

Agree the GT4 is one of the best cars I have owned for sure, and it's a much better car than the Spyder.

Peoples issues seems to be the GT label , so say things like the Spyder is better because it's not seen to be a GT car and the engine is OK because it not a GT car !

That does not make the GT4 a worse car, I would take a GT4 over a 997 GT3. but I can see why other might choose a GT3.

So people are posting about how the GT badge is interpreted and then calling the GT4 a poor car !

When really the GT4 is far far better than the Spyder is every area.

Again that does not make the Spyder a bad car, both cars are great cars, but the GT4 is greater :-)

Spyder feels like a GTS with a 3.8 because that's about what it is. the GT4 feels solid in every area and is just 15% better imo in every area.

Yes, indeed. I have not been on Piston Heads for a while. Just came to check on news / rumours concerning the 718 GT4 and read this crap. I don't think I will be back for a long while.

Meanwhile I have been driving my GT4 almost everyday. Spanking it on country roads. It is covered in grime and looks wonderful. Every time I drive the car it is a pleasure.
