I think they have a massive issue. The GT3/Speedster engines needed ITBs to pair with the GPF, there's no way the GT4 will have them due to the increased cost.

I wonder what the plan is now...
As mentioned in another thread evidently according to this week's Autocar test of the new Speedster this GT3 engine now sounds crap compared to the 991.2 GT3 unit pre filter.

Hopefully the 718 GT4 may escape this but in all probability it won't.
Just replied on the other thread. Open eye insight from Autocar, how on earth are they going to fix it?

Just put no mufflers?

I’ve just read the article and couldn’t find any reference to it sounding crap..

‘New particulate filters have diluted the manic engine note – bluntly, it’s now a little less ‘motorsport’, if still utterly magnificent...’

I read a Speedster review that was more explanatory regarding the Speedster's noise compared to a GT3..It basically said that the closed part behind the seats with the huge C/F back coupled with the folded top acted in significantly muffling the intake noise from the engine..This makes sense and another point where a top Porsche guy was quoted as saying that the Speedster was made quieter than the RS to suit touring better..

Fair points, filter only it is then.

Damp squib brewing in the engine department?

And to think none of us could imagine that all the conjecture, rumours and false dawns of the 981 GT4 would pale into insignificance when compared with the 718 GT4 arrival...…

Porsche - masters of illusion featuring extensive smoke & mirrors!

McLaren would have launched 86 new models in the same time (LOL) but also failed to win any competitive motorsport or even qualify for their US adventure

I'm in full agreement with Cmoose here..Its rather perplexing that Porsche have chosen such a lengthy delay for the upcoming 718GT4/Spyder..Porsche are masters in building up tension and speculation in anticipation of an upcoming halo GT Porsche.
The top brass at Porsche AG must be rolling around on the floor laughing at us lot when reading these forums..roflwoohoo

It was an absolute necessity to fit the ITBs on the post WLTP Speedster/RS for two reasons..They restore or even add power to mitigate the loss caused by the GPFs..They also significantly reduce emissions and soot particulates due to a cleaner burn and more efficient combustion..They were developed as a pair from the outset as the back pressure from the filters can be counteracted by the ITBs..They're particularly efficient at reducing emissions during cold starts which is the worse time.
However on the GT4 with its much lower specific power the ITBs are not required therefore i can't see them being fitted on that car.

I am wondering if the auto blip on/off switch from the new speedster will make its way over to GT4/Spyder given these cars will likely be the last true drivers cars (NASP, manual, etc.) and some people like to do their own heel and toeing. One can only hope.

Its on the 981 cars with sports chrono already. Only does it in sports plus mode.

He's not about its existence, he's on about the ability to turn it off, which is currently not possible and is seriously annoying. I want Sport Plus settings but want to heel and toe myself.

This new button sounds like it fixes this.

The 981 GT4 has a blip on/off button, the 718 could go either way depending on whether it follows the previous GT4 or the regular 718s.

What does the 991.2 GT3 have? I suspect that may indicate what the GT4 will have.

GT4 cars doesn't have Sport Plus.

Sport Button in GT4 car turns on auto blip only and 3rd Rad in the GT4
Sport Button doesn't have any other functionality in a GT4. Dampers have a separate control not linked to the sport button. ESC and TC are separately controlled.

Manual GT3, R and Speedster all have the same behaviour.

I guess you mean you want the 3rd rad cooling and extra slip that the sport button provides but without the auto blip. But, there's no reason why you can't carry on with your own H&T with sport on. The only thing is, that unless you're as good as Senna, it'll blip the throttle better than you!

Henry Catchpole new video on speedster shows him turning off the blip with a button located on console behind the shifter where you have the exhaust button, roof up/ down buttons etc, I have not seen it on a 981 gt4 or Spyder or any 911 for that matter (perhaps it is on gt3 and I never noticed it on any of the reviews).
