From that article;

"Unlike before, production for these cars won't be limited, and dealer order books are open now with Spring 2020 deliveries targeted."

Maybe some hope for us small hitters!
Let’s hope this is true - it would be brilliant if everyone who wants one can order one - I’d love that smile

Definitely, that's what I was getting at.

When do we all think the configurator will be up?

Looking good as from the CAR article;

"One thing we learned from the last GT4 is a lot of people couldn’t get one. Now we’re really proud enthusiasts can buy the car, rather than write letters. We’re not limited in a way, we will have a longer production run than before, and we wanted to keep it in the same price range.’

Gear Ratio are unchanged - because of emissions. According to AP the broader torque band mitigates.

Yup. Unfortunate, but I guess it was too much trouble to change. More torque is not really the answer unfortunately.

What would you say if the 992 Carrera T had this engine in it? With GT-Lite Suspension?

Given that the Spyder is “being described as “a gt4 without the roof”I wished they had carried the side scoops from GT4 to the Spyder

Kinda happy they didn't actually, as I feel like the scoops look weird without the wing?

Very excited overall about the Spyder. Cannot wait to get one.

Wonder how this new engine will respond to a single mass flywheel...

Feels like the spyder is the most compelling proposition. Too bad about the gearing, otherwise all the ingredients of a superb roadcar.

With the weight penalties and no torque increase the GT4 really needed to get a pdk option to feel like a proper step forward.

If you're an existing 981 GT4 owner, swapping it for the new car is likely to not be worth it unless you have to have the latest shiny thing. A few mods to a 981 would get you in the same ballpark for less cost. Used values of 981s are likely to go down now, which plays right into the hands of those prepared to modify.

Where I think 718 GT4 works is for people not already on the GT car roundabout. It's exactly the same as the last one - the entry point to GT products and good value if you can get one at list specced to your needs.

A little disappointed, it didn't need a displacement increase in my opinion, that's just bragging rights stuff. Maybe they wanted it for homologation reasons for the Clubsport but as a road car I wish they'd raised the rev limit and focused on top end instead.

Disappointed again by the gear ratios, an area they might not have had a choice over but again, my biggest gripe with the 981.

And that engine and GPF, not convinced it will be better than the MA1 lump.

My money is on a used 981 with some breathing mods and different ratios/FD.

Will have to wait and see the chassis specs, might be the decider.

Details up on Porsche UK website, note the "limited availability" footnote...

Might be limited availability short term, with regard to how many they can churn out each month. But hopefully for the normal people wanting them there will be no cap long term.

OPC confirmed they expect to see more allocation of these than in previous years and he thinks its realistic I could see a car in 2020 even though I've got no relationship with them yet (zero new cars purchased).

Fingers crossed if this is true volume will truly end the overs culture!

Web site says limited availability, just like they upped the production of the 991.2 gt3 they will do the same for the new GT4. The demand exists so they would be stupid not to.

I personally think the car looks epic and I can’t wait to hear the reviews in regards how they have improved this one over the last one.

I’m sure the OPC phones are red hot this morning!

Yes it looks like there will only be a few cars this year but UK deliveries q3 and 4 with the Spyder first evidently. Limited availability despite what the marketing dept and OPCs are claiming. This simply ups the bunfight process in typical Porsche fashion!

It's interesting that the main gripe once more appears to be not just the gear ratios but the relatively low revving engine. In these two respects very similar to the 981 then.

Dual mass flywheel, helper springs too.

Looks like P have binned the older folding bucket seats option in favour of the fixed buckets.

Looks good value at c£75k basic which was the initially anticipated price. Although proportionately this is a greater price increase over the 981 than the gen 2 GT3 over the gen 1.

Looks like the Spyder will be around £73k going off the USA differential which percentage wise is the biggest uplift on the 981 Spyders £60k. No surprise now its got some GT components.
