Yes but it does not mean the car that we are all seeing is the next GT 4 ?, it could just so easy be the next R with a more powerful turbo flat 4 engine.
Porsche may decide that a newer Cayman gt road car is just to close to the gt3 and then yes the guys saying they will not put a flat 4 engine in a gt car is true

So the GT bosses have ruled out a 4 cyl.

What if the car we all think is the new GT4 is not a a GT car at all, but I don’t know, say 718 Cayman R? Or whatever.

They could then put a beefed up 4cyl in there.... just a thought....

Anyway, only problem I have with the obvious route of the GT4 with a detuned gt3 4.0 lump is the cost of the thing. Doesn’t really fit into Porsche pricing structure.

Unlike the 911, which is using a 3.0 liter flat-six in both the Carrera and Carrera S, just with different turbos, the 718 twins will have a 2.0 or a 2.5 liter turbocharged flat four. The 2.0 in the base cars will have 300 horsepower and 266 lb-ft of torque while the 718 Boxster S will have a 2.5 liter flat-four turbo with 340 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque. There could also be a GTS version coming with 365 horsepower.

Porsche also couldn't fit the 3.0 liter flat-six from the 911 into the Boxster, the additional plumbing for the turbos wouldn't let it fit, so they had to go to a flat-four. What is good to know is that a naturally aspirated flat-six could still fit.

“We have the same engine compartment as in the 981,” Hofstetter explains. “If we had gone for a six-cylinder engine, we would have had to build a completely different car, and it wouldn’t have looked like a Boxster anymore.” Matthias Hofstette Porsche AG

So - if it does turn out to be a 4.0 an engine - how hard will it be to get one? Is it going to be a GT3 situation? Any ideas on price?

Understandably it will be quite difficult to secure a new GT4 slot.

Likely fewer cars than the c590 UK 981GT4s. Reckon 450 ish. Remember no 3rd run for gen 2 GT3.

Customers know the success and affordability of the 981 and will see the potentially more attractive (proper GT engine albeit substantially detuned and strangled) 718.

Budget around £72k basic.

Why fewer cars than 981 GT4?

Numerous reasons one of which is proportionately similar reduction as the gen 1 to the gen 2 GT3.

That's just a guess though isn't it? They may do what they did last time and change cooking 718 slots to GT4 slots thus increasing allocation numbers.

Still none the wiser. Given how well received the 981 GT4 was i would have thought Porsche would want to produce more than last time to satisfy demand but also trying to keep it exclusive.

Mutually exclusive.

Being well received is largely a forgone conclusion for these cars.

The last thing Porsche want to do with a GT product is satisfy demand!!

The GT cars are a relatively expensive (to Porsche especially in the unusual UK market specifically and currently with the weak pound) underpriced (for the restricted run UK market) hard to attain shiny bauble halo product and all about brand filtering down to vanilla Porsche models.

As far as I know, no confirmation yet. All based on ‘spy’ shots of mules.

That being had not been expecting the GT3RS that was ‘leaked’ tonight, so I’m obviously well out of the loop these days.

Nothing from OPC - but it is coming soon. No later than July.
Who told you no later than july?

I'm aware of the spy shots of the mules, has anyone noticed the exhaust tail pipe positions on the mule GT4, Spyder, and 911 speedster?

Talking about the updated race car based upon the street car.
Also seems like they sounds like they could drop 718 from the branding for the GT car to get around the flat-6 six issue.

Good comments. There is so much speculation on what engine we are going to eventually see.

GT4 to get the 500BHP GT3 engine when the GT3 goes to 600BHP Turbo engines for the 992.

GT3 will be crazy fast and the GT4 gets the current NA unit.

Some early noise was a 4.0 version of the 3.8 i.e. not a GT3 engine but you can see where the chinese whispers may have kicked in as the info changed hands...
