Want to keep spec within my budget. These two are in my thinking, really like both. Which way would you go?

The lights. They're cool. And I don't like paying to have wheels painted. What's the first thing you see when a Porsche is coming towards you? Yes, the cool lights! The wheels are just a blur that look a bit dirty. And you could always have the wheels done later.

You can always get indie to paint and it cost like £250.
Standard lights works fine but PdSl would make u see better. it actually has a function which is worth the money. What is your other spec. post it up on here and we can advise you abit.

As others have said, go for the lights. They would be expensive to retrofit (if indeed possible) whereas wheel colour can be changed quite cheaply. I have specified PDLS lights in black on my forthcoming GTS this may also suit you - depends on your external colour

Without knowing the rest of your spec, I can't say for sure as to be honest, they both have their merits. Wheels make a car and PDLS are a decent upgrade on the standard lights. I have read plenty of people saying the standard lights are fine. If you don't do much night driving on B roads, get the platinum wheels. However, I think the silver wheels (Carrera S?) look smart and prefer them to the platinum and black on quite a few of the colours.

I spec'd both PDLS and wheels in black gloss and went way over my original budget so I'm the last person I would listen to....

Thanks for the comments the torture of the configurator! My spec at the moment is:
GT SILVER
CARRERA S WHEELS
DOUBLE EXHAUST TIPS
PDLS LIGHTS
PDK
ISOFIX
PARKING FRONT AND REAR
STORAGE NET
FOLDING MIRRORS

I'm at just over £49k and my PCP is coming in at £627 a month over 4 years. I'd prefer to be under £600. But I think this spec classic and remains desirable for resale without going crazy.

Would welcome your guidance and comments please

The spec you have chosen looks good, I have a similar specced 718 in the same colour with the platinum wheels and they look good on the car.

However I would consider substituting the PDLS/ platinum wheels for the switchable sports exhaust - as it makes a big difference

Why spec for resale on a PCP plan , the specs not that great for resale imo if that were the factor.

I thought the "cool" lights were PDLS Plus (£1,397)? As under...

The OP mentions only PDLS (£615). Are these so cool?...

The PLUS system "Additionally includes dynamic main beam control with continuous range adaptation based on prevailing traffic. The camera based system monitors the road ahead to detect the headlights of oncoming vehicles and the tail lights of vehicles travelling in front and automatically turns off the high beam."

Now I had this on my 2010 Merc E-Class and what a stupid system it was. Yes, it would automatically dip the headlights if an approaching car came into view, but it would also do the same when travelling around bends which had reflective posts on them. So there you'd be, happily driving on full beam around the bend (as most Merc drivers are) when all of a sudden the lights dip. I switched the function off. Maybe it's just Merc not being that clever when it comes to tech?

The Merc also had cornering headlamps, which I can't say I miss one little bit.

In a toss up between Platinum Carreras (I have them), fancy lights (the PLUS system) I'd say it's just the colour of the wheels vs. the four little DRLs and debatable LED superiority over Xenon. Our X1 has LEDs and they're not stupendous compared to my 981's halogens.

My number one option speccing a new car would be PASM, although it's not quite as good on the 718 as it was on the 981 due to an overall stiffening of the suspension in both normal or sport settings. At £1,010 PASM is a fair bit cheaper than the "cool" lights and more useful in my opinion.

I'm in the "PSE drones" camp, having experienced it a few times, so I'd not waste my money on something that can give me a headache.

I agree. I'd pass this spec by if I were looking for a used one. Almost poverty spec.

Personally wouldn't spec 20" wheels without PASM. I found the ride of the non-PASM 718 on 20" wheels I drove unacceptable.

Personally, I'd leave double exhaust tips (to what benefit?) and stock PDLS out. Check out whether 20''s and passive suspension work for you. if not go PASM if needed. Platinum wheels would look cool on GT Silver though

I think the four point Xenons are a definite cosmetic upgrade from the permanently lit parking lights on the standard lights. Plus you do get all the benefits of the cornering and brighter lights. I’m not so keen on the aesthetics of the LED ones.

PDLS lights every time over platinum wheels. Firstly - safety you always want the best lights you can have in a performance car - and to my eyes platinum wheels always look like dirty standard wheels and a waste of money. But even if I liked them and I had to choose it would still be the lights. If budget is strict I wouldn’t even have 20” wheels either, certainly not without PASM. I guess the twin exhaust tips you could always retrofit later - another option I probably wouldn’t bother with! I’d even bin the wheels and have PASM with 19” wheels as PASM lowers the car by 10mm and improves both the ride quality and looks st the same time.

PSE - unless I’m missing something you don’t actually say whether you’ve ordered a Boxster or Cayman, but obviously you benefit with PSE more with the open top so with a Cayman I wouldn’t bother with it.

Agree.
19" wheels plus PASM is actually cheaper than just going 20" too. You'd have to be very fixated with the look of the 20" wheels to suffer it's dynamic disadvantages to choose it over the 19+PASM option imo.
