Came to attach my trickle charger last week but couldn’t unlock the car. Did the wheel arch liner removal thing to pop the bonnet to access the battery which was flat. Odd as I driven the car 7 days previously.

Put the trickle charger on, left it a few hours, re attached earth lead and fob unlocked car. Put voltmeter on terminals to see the voltage dropping fairly swiftly from 11.5. Car started and volt soon showed over 13, so all lookin normal.

Turned engine off, disconnected battery to recharge battery, but noticed passenger window down by about 8 inches.

Reconnected battery earth to enable window to be raised. Er... car wouldn’t play!

Can’t unlock it, hazards flash and alarm siren gets busy. Interior lights on. Managed to poke a broom handle through the passenger window to push the unlock button on the dash and also managed to work drivers and passenger door releases with no result.

Tried spare key gob, again, nothing.

Replaced battery with a new one as original was ‘unstable’ and was under guarantee.

Still, no result.

Obviously, manual unlock isn’t working- I suspect faulty manual door lock, a documented issue.

I think I need to get the key in the ignition to reset, but how to do it without brick/window introduction?

If the passenger window is down 8" you could fit a small person through the window?? My 5yr old would likely fit through and she is amazingly car literate - she would have no issue getting the key in the ignition and switching it on!!

As daft as it sounds, check for water on the carpet under the passenger seat. I had similar faults on my 987.2 - windows down, dash lit up like a Christmas tree, alarm going off, brake lights on.

There’s an ECU under the passenger seat which got fried due to water ingress, drain tubes blocked apparently.

My issue is getting into the car at all at the moment.

Doubt its water under the sea TBH, check there anyway when hoovering and doesn't suffer from misting windows particularly.

As far as getting my 6 year old grandaughter in through the window gap, I'd be worried if the key in the ignition didn't work and she was stuck inside!
