Hello!

I am considering buying used 981 Cayman S. Car was in accident and had changed front bumper, rear 3/4 panel and rear bumper. The airbags were not deployed.

The car is about 7-10% cheaper than other similar specs.

Would you consider buying this car? I am not afraid about car being repaired wrong, but I am afraid about potential resale value and lenght of selling. (planning to keep it for about 1 - 2 years)
I would also buy Porsche Approved warranty for this car.

Thanks for all opinions

You will find it a bit more difficult to move on Cat anything cars assuming it is .would be looking for nearer 15% Also you will not get Porsche warranty until the car you have owned the car for 3 months then it will need a 111 point check @£200 ish then the warranty around £850 inc assist for 1 year .Not sure they would warrant if it is Cat car

Hard to answer from the limited info.

Minor repaired damage shouldn't be an issue, but any 'Cat' is a real stigmatism and will hurt resale and values.

Also, a lot depends on who repaired it? If not Porsche, then you might encounter issues with the warranty.

I would personally stay away from any car like that as even if it is the best repair in the world if it has been written off then you will struggle with it when you come to selling it as there are very few people who would choose to buy a cat car and also most garages would not take it it as px being a cat car as they don’t tend to like selling cat cars.
Easier to just walk away now imho.

I find it hard to believe that 3 panels needed replacing yet the airbags didn't go off.

Having said that, I've bought loads of Cat D cars and as long as you know what the damage was and how it was repaired then they can be exceptional buys at the right price. A lot of cars can be written off these days just down to (potential) hire car costs and nothing to do with the damage.

Also, If you want a Porsche warranty then I'd have a word with them first - they may be happy to do an inspection for you now.

I am amazed that they are asking only 7-10% off the price of normal unrepaired/undamaged cars. That much damage, absent after-accident pictures that show trivial damage and a detailed list of what was replaced and I'd be asking for 30% as I wouldn't expect the next person to value it any more than that.

Said as one who totaled a Boxster with no airbag deployment or even driver soreness.

First of all thank you for the replies.

What does CAT mean? I am from continental europe a we do not use this acronym.

I am also not sure about airbags, from the outside pictures after accident it looks lile they are okay. I would say it was guardrail impact and rear 1/4 panel was torn/worn through by it.

,
Category (CAT) C and D cars that have been accident damaged to a degree which meant repair and car hire costs might exceed the cost of the vehicle to the insurer. Cat C cars are more damaged than Cat D ones - but both might be cost effectively repaired and resold. Market values will be substantially less than similar vehicles that have not had significant accident damage.
