981 GTS - Cayman & Boxster
Discussion

This may be a daft question, but can someone advise why the 981 Cayman GTS has +10bhp over the Boxster GTS?
What’s the difference and can I bolt on 10 horses to mine?
Thanks folks.
Porsche always tried to position the Cayman above the Boxster - and priced it so. Hence the 10bhp That was always silly because the Boxster must cost more to manufacture. With the 718 they have reversed the pricing and given them the same power. Whether you would notice an extra 10bhp I rather doubt, but I would expect a remap could easily fix it.What’s the difference and can I bolt on 10 horses to mine?
Thanks folks.
Looks like I should of googled it 1st....

Two options so I’ll give them a shout tomorrow.

a couple of weeks ago you said "but at the moment 330bhp is plenty" and you are wanting more power already?
And it is. I was looking to re-map the new company car and asked at the same time. Minimal gains for more cost I was told (not someone you want on you sales team!!) so I've not got much further. It was c.£500 for 10bhp so will probably spend the same on super unleaded and track days..

Ahh i see, but im guessing power is important as why would you have your company car remapped? Wouldnt be for economy thats for sure It was c.£500 for 10bhp so will probably spend the same on super unleaded and track days..

Sort of contradicted yourself? If it is why look and if price is right you would It was c.£500 for 10bhp so will probably spend the same on super unleaded and track days..

Perhaps, but I was interested to know initially why the difference and if it was a quick fix or not. The car has plenty of go but more if it’s easily achieved is welcome. I wouldn’t really want to jeopardise any Porsche warranty for the sake of a relatively small gain.
Company car is a 3.0 V6 TDI so the gains are huge.
Back to the OP's original question it is an easy matter to remedy via a remap from a reputable tuner.
The economy biased flat spot between 2000-3000rpm is removed, there is more lower rpm torque and greater urge from 5500rpm.
The 3.4 in the base Carrera had 350hp.
Porsche warranty concerns are all that prevent me from having my BGTS mapped though some tuners will say its undetectable.

Are 981 GTS too much money at the moment or is that emotive flat-six sports-exhaust howl going to make them a future classic?
Not local to me but me thinks it could be a keeper. Just being asked by a local 35i Z4 owner and need some reassurance

The replacement 718 GTS has been available for a little while and 981 GTS prices have stayed firm, with the average asking price being around £55k-£60k which it has been since the 981 was discontinued in 2016. Higher mileage cars are priced at the lower end of the £50k-£65k range as you would expect, and manual Cayman asking prices seem to have risen slightly.Make of that what you will.
I thought deliveries of 718 gts's were starting around now ie last week in January, so physically only just on the road. The prices for 981 gts are mainly OPC as private have dropped under the £50k and are still available so the seller sells to the trade who whack the price up. As for investment you could buy the one you have mentioned but its trade value is around £45k- £48k ( westealanycar £43410 and they are 10% below trade) so private £50k.
So if you do the maths buy one then sell immediatley you would lose around £12K
The best way not too lose so much is to buy privately rather than OPC and save £10k, but who have £50k just sat around and the risk?
Regarding investment isnt that to make money?
Someone is making a hell of a lot of money and im guessing i know who they are?

Was called about this GTS Boxster on Saturday but still too soon for me to push the button for Mrs. James-T. Can't think how much the first owner has blown in so few miles with such a bonkers option list, but looked like new. I just have to wait for the new tax year
