Hi,

Got a non functional left and right lcd's on 2006 987 boxster (central lcd is ok).

My understanding is that the whole cluster needs replaced, any tips?

Any suggestion of the appropriate part number?

Good used parts vendor?

Thanks

Used won't work as they are tallied with other modules. Only new and will need to be adapted to car by diagnostics

I can't see why a used one couldn't be re-coded with a PIWIS tester. There is a managed coding routine, which is used to code the cluster for the equipment fitted to the car. You use this routine when adding cruise control.

I was reading on boxa.net last week of a couple of people who have done it.

Also try boxsterbits.co.uk

Yes it may be possible like that or by taking a data dump from original and writing it to donor unit. I'm not sure if PIWIS needs to see a virgin cluster before coding is allowed, Many manufactures do need it to be virgin. I was answering the OP question as it sounded like he thought it would be plug and play.

Thanks.

Still have the question about where to buy used 987 cluster from? More tips appreciated.

And also if i take the car to mot without mileage being displayed, will they be able to read the mileage, or only if Porsche specialists?

Status Porsche on Teeside may be worth a go, I got a multichanger for my 987 from them a while back.

Cheers all, I'll update with progress.

Another related problem:

Took the car to a Porsche specialist today and asked to a) look at the cluster b) take the car to MOT if they can accept the computer reading of the milage (cluster is not working so not showing the milage).

What they did is a) did not look into the cluster (too busy) b) MOTed the car and put UNREADABLE at the milage record...

I am really annoyed by this, so stupid!!!

Is there a way to correct the MOT record/certificate somewhere by taking a proper on board computer reading? I feel really bad about this.

I have a 986 and have just ordered a used clock set from Douglas Valley breakers. I have ensure the model number is exactly the same.

This is a plug and play item.

Things obviously changed with the 987 then?

Quite an unexpected outcome: dash lcd's came back to life perfectly well, all by themselves. Just a day prior to garage appt. Confused, but all working. Thanks.
