I'm picking up a CGTS in March :-), on my previous vehicle (a somewhat dull BMW 440i!) I had gap insurance. Any recommendations/experiences with more expensive vehicles?

Thank you.

I can't wait to find out why Porsche are asking for £1,200 from me....

It's easy money for insurers, and only superficially attractive when you think about the real value it provides. But if it helps sweeten a purchase deal...

Mind you, 1200 quid sounds a heck of a load of dosh.

I managed to get an insurance for my 718 BGTS a couple of weeks ago with Aviva Direct Clients which will pay out to invoice price for first three years - if you are first owner of car thus obviating the need for GAP insurance. I got this via Nowell and Richards you might like to try them

What happens to your GAP cover in years 2 and 3 if you change insurer?

Because they can. My Gap provider suggested it's because they don't make that much on the actual car.

You need to stay with same insurer of course to get full 3 year benefit but I am told that annual increases on the policies are very much on in line with inflation each year.

I have used independent providers before. A quick google will find you many offering full replacement (old for new) or return to invoice. They seem to be around £300-£400 for 3 yrs on a GTS (I don’t think the model actually matters), often with a limit of £50,000 payout. It’s a simple policy so the only risk with not using a major provider is they go bust. Check who they are backed by.

I've been quoted normal car insurance for a new 718 where it covers new for old cost (Same as gap) for 3 years.

So no need for gap insurance.

NFU include GAP insurance in their premiums and they are usually very competitive.

I have all 3 of our cars with them. Macan GTS, GT3 Touring and a BMW

Thanks for that!

Just spoken to them and they easily matched my Admiral "multi-car" quote.

ALA have always been exceptionally competitive on my last three cars, but more importantly, have processed changes without fuss and bother and always pleasant and helpful on the phone - no corporate bs either.

I’m another with the premium Aviva product. I got it through a broker I can’t remember the name of. It wasn’t a package available on the comparison sites. I could have reduced the cost a bit by going for a a basic insurance elsewhere and an alternative GAP supplier, ALA seemed the best in that department, there were a few extra benefits on the Aviva one and it seemed easier to keep it in one place.
