Deposit down on a 981 Boxster S today

I’ve not even seen it. Having concluded another £20k for a 991 was probably not worth it for me I decided to find a good Boxster instead. Minutes later I found this one and not too long after that I had paid a deposit. I’m buzzing!! And a bit nervous.
So first question - anyone here trade this in for an Aston Martin recently or know the car?
Second question - my current 2 seater convertible is a 2009 SLK 350. I haven’t driven many cars and don’t really push it on the roads so given the Boxster’s great reputation, what will be the most noticeable difference when driving this compared to the SLK. Or does my ‘normal’ driving mean i’ll likely not notice a difference? I totally appreciate that the Sports Chrono etc will be wasted on me but like it for re-sale purposes.
Final question - it’s going into Porsche this week for its 4 year service. What do I need to ensure it done before it leaves that dealership?

make sure they do the latter.
What you will notice is how bad the P zero are, you will get scary wheel hop in reverse !
bin the tyres and enjoy the car they are great things and great value.

From what I hear, INSIST on Michelin PS4S tyres. They are available with the Porsche N mark so are fine for warranty. Make sure they fit N marked not generic. Are you going to take it straight to a Porsche dealer for the warranty? I guess you know there's 111 point check you have to pay for? Can you not get HR Owen to pay for that?
I have Goodyear F1 A2 which are fine, but my tyre dealer of 20 years told me the other week they went to a Michelin track day with various cars kitted out in Goodyear, Pirelli, Michelin and had to guess which were which. She told me the PS4S was easy to detect as it was SO much better than the rest.
Some will say Pirelli PZero N1's are good. I don't believe it after I, and many others, had issues with PZero N0's, the previous incarnation.
If they say you'll have to pay extra for the PS4S than ARGUE, but ultimately I would pay the uplift from Pirelli or Goodyear, perhaps a few hundred pounds, if I had no choice, so as to get it shod with the Michelins. Don't be fobbed off by "PS4S aren't available yet" - they are!
One thing to check... the wheels, for tiny stone chips on the outer forward face of each wheel spoke. I only noticed when I first washed the car. Porsche missed them on my pre-purchase 111 point inspection also.

At 4 years the tyre sealant expiry date may also be up, so need replacment.so a manor server

Don't just bin the tyres. Check if they have cracks. If they have contact Pirelli - they will replace them free unless they are badly worn. Insist that they replace them with N1 Pirellis which do not hop like N0s and are an altogether different tyre. Perhaps not as good as Michelins but imo better that Goodyear Eagles in terms of handling. so a major service.

Firstly congratulations - cracking car for the money!
I’ve owned Boxster, Boxster S and SLK 350. The main difference you’ll notice is the sharpness of the steering in the Porsche and the wonderful way it changes direction. Far superior to the SLK. The Mercedes has a more more relaxed personality but the Porsche still has a very compliant ride.
If you like ‘driving’ as opposed to ‘cruising’ you’ll absolutely love the Boxster.

Cheeky, and likely to get an odd look, but why not! BUT... get the Michelins. Not worth driving for 20k-ish miles on Pirelli imo.

Unlike most on here I do have the advantage of actually having driven Eagles and both N1 and N0s back to back. I've done around 6k miles on N1 Pirellis and see no reason to change my assessment of their merits.
It may well be that the Michelins are better but no-one - particularly no-one who is not pathologically opposed to Pirelli - has actually done back to back tests. As I repeatedly say there are no professional ndependent tests of N rated tyres - but tests of other high performance tyres - such as http://www.evo.co.uk/volkswagen/golf-gti/18309/bes... show that Pirelli do know a thing or two about designing tyres and run Michelin much closer than some would give them credit for.
Having recently switched to Goodyears from the supplied P-Zero (N1s) that came with the car I can say one thing, and that is (IMO) the Goodyears are a massive improvement in the wet. P-Zeros are great handling in dry conditions but I found them a tad slidey otherwise to say the least. What I really wanted was for the n-rated Michelins to become available on my 18"s but I guess I'll either have to wait or upgrade the wheel sizes..

Agree F1 are way better than P zero , My 2nd R came on Good years, but what I did notice is the grip fell of like a brick 1/2 worn, was fun though and helps the drift's out of bends at legal speeds, but one does get tired of no grip after a while.My CS came on new P zero, I binned them within 3 weeks the thing would spin up in 3rd gear and wheel hop in the golf ! the PS4S are like driving in the dry in the wet !!! my 981 Spyder is so dire on the Pzero's that the car is scary at speed, it's a real mismatch.
As for the CGT well that killed people, and Porsche had to bring out a MPSS so you could at least drive it.
I think Pirelli tyres are poor, even in F1 they have been though bad times with tyres blowing up, no super car uses the brand ! let alone any ring record or hyper car.
EVO tests are rigged they have never put a MPSS or a PS4S in any test in the last 8 years !!!
I would not want free P zero N1, one has a £60k sports car the tyres ruin the car imo.

We have had 981 Boxster S for the last 6 years and hold the car in the very highest regard. The only issue was with the brake pedal bush; there is a thread currently running which may be worth a read. It’s no big deal once you understand what is happening and OPC should fix if the issue arises.
As regards tyres, our first Boxster came with Pirelli P Zero. In 20k miles varied motoring we never had any issues. The current 16 plate car has Goodyear. We’ve done less miles but again absolutely no problem and interestingly at a cold wet Castle Combe for the PCGB day in November last year it held its own very competently.
I had P Zero on the 650S and never experienced any problems with grip. I’ve MPSS on the CGT and all was fine through some pretty filthy weather in the Alps last summer.
I’m not arguing that there aren't better tyres out there, but drive according to the conditions and even the much derided P Zero will be fine.

If it has PSE, make sure the valves are actually working. They often get seized and it's an easy thing to miss.
Also make sure all the hands are present on the Sport Chrono clock. They sometimes fall off!
PS. You'll love it. I came from a Caterham and a 500+ hp TVR and the 981 S is the best car I've ever owned for all round performance.
