I’ve had my 718 Boxster since September, absolutely in love with it and still grinning from ear to ear. Mine is Sapphire Blue and I get quite a few positive comments especially when I’m cleaning it.

I personally haven’t experienced any snide or hurtful comments but as I’m a middle aged man who can only focus on one thing I wouldn’t hear anyway. 😁

I hope you have as much fun as I’m having, you can’t take it with you!

KPB great post.
I have never done and I never will get involved in social media.
The closest I get is this forum and two other car related forums.

Thank you - I know that feeling too.

I must admit it was also quite cathartic to write, so I appreciate the responses.
Completely agree, great post KPB1973. Well said. Hope you (and your wife and kid) are enjoying the car.

As someone about your age (assuming you were born in 1973!), I've see many things happen to friends recently that I now think that life really is too short and we need to enjoy it while we can. And i am way beyond giving a st what anyone thinks. (Not car-related as such I know...) so we've just splashed out on a flash holiday that we were umming and arring about, but eventually landed on that we (and the kids) always wanted to do so let's do it. Car-related Pork purchase hopefully to follow!!

Reading this with interest. I often find myself justifying to complete strangers why I drive what I drive e.g. ‘lucky enough to do it, had the chance before kids’ etc. All true, but rarely would I say ‘worked my ar*e off for 15 years to fulfil a dream I had since a kid.’

The Mrs is away this weekend and taken the daily runner, I need to take the little one (18 months) out and it will be in the GTS. Still slightly anxious of clambering around in the back to get him in and out at the local retail park/soft play centre.

But the flip side of this is that life is too short to worry. Just found out my old man (who was the one who got me into cars having worked with them all his working life) has a few weeks left. Will never forget the proud look on his face when I first picked up the GTS, or the fun he had the first time he drove it. It’s those kind of things that far outweigh any snide remarks or general resentment.

I'm 26 and I get the same from work colleagues, though it's not too bad. People who know me talk to me about it, I just ignore the how can you afford that comments and tell them they should have got a job in IT.

I'm picking up mine on the 1st, I suspect we're both as excited! Here she is waiting:

Agree, looks great and a similar spec to what I was looking at originally but changed about 4 times before the spec was locked so now it looks quite different. Similar position to you @ 27
, have done the sensible thing and got the house but now is the time to enjoy a great car before things start to settle down.

Very jealous you only have until next week to wait. I still have 2 months to go

I was all set to award this the 'worst "I've just ordered a new Porsche" thread ever' comment, but it hasn't quite turned out like that smile

Fair play to you, and enjoy it. I reckon that if you look at the full ownership costs of this it will be less per mile than sme of your friends/colleagues, due to low depreciation. The colour looks gorgeous, too.

It seems to be going slower! I swear as we approach the 1st time is slowing down.

Thanks for the kind comments. I also changed spec about 5 times, much to the annoyance of my OPC salesperson I’m sure smile

I also think a 718 at high 40s is a steal when 300hp hot hatches are 35k.

I've worked in IT for decades, and a new Cayman would be nearly a years pay for me.

Wrong bit of IT obviously.

Truly sorry to hear about your Dad's situation.

I hope you and your family are as okay as you can be in the circumstances.

I meant it very tounge in cheek. There’s something about offices that seems to encourage rumour spreading and petty jealousy, that’s just how I deflect it.

Me and mrs having same discussions. If anything worse for her. Lots of colleagues who are less qualified and less well paid than her giving her the same line. But same people all have multiple children in private nurseries and lucked into properties in desirable parts of London. (Rich partners and Help to Buy).

It takes her pointing out that her story of hardship to justify it. Yet having another child never gets the "how can you afford that" line. Unless your on no. 3+

Some very interesting posts in this thread.

To the OP, congrats.

Sapphire Blue - was certainly the winning colour for me. I was in your position exactly 12 months ago; just about to pick up my first porker - 718 CS.

And those 12 months now passed, I don't regret a thing.

A couple of pics to whet that appetite of yours ...

The first pic there was in the Parc National des Cevennes in the south of France - took a road trip with a buddy of mine. By far the best motoring experience of my life - empty roads, glorious sweeping mountain bends, big open passes - it was the right car for the trip.

And just this weekend I had a trip with the other half to Ghent in Belgium in the 718CS through the EuroTunnel, another lovely spin on European roads.

In terms of comments from those I know and those I don't, I have had plenty of positive and no negative.

Colleagues - well I work in the city so noone drives to work, no one cares about cars, and there is no motoring-related discussion.

Friends - I have no friends who care about cars either, yet those close friends I have like the fact that I have a porker and that it makes me happy. Most of my friends are richer than I am, yet one of them drives a beat-up, ancient Fiesta, and another a 5-year old VW Polo. They're just not car people smile

Strangers - I get the odd positive comment on the station forecourt - a conversation with a chap recently who was cleaning his Jeep and was admiring the 718 CS when I pulled up - or yesterday another chap who gave me a big grin, pointed at the porker and said that looks like fun. A couple of lads who said 'nice car' when I pulled into a hotel car park. It's all good.

I am trading in the 718 CS in a couple of weeks for a new C63 AMG Coupé as I need 4 seats - the other half doesn't drive - but I will be back in a porker at some point - 991.2 next I think. It's all car fun for me, it makes ME happy.

Enjoy the purchase OP - it's what makes YOU happy that matters.

A lot of people seem to love making judgements regarding other people's lifestyle choices. Even some of my family/friends make comments about my five consecutive Porsche cars. It's how I choose to spend my money. I look on with incredulity at the consumerist crap that most throw money around on. Having to have the latest phone/tech/clothing fad/foreign holidays x3 per annum. I know people who spend more on takeaways/booze/fags per month than a new Boxster/Cayman would cost..
