Still love this thread, it’s like a lesson in British arguments.

Express opinion.

Explain - just a view.

Apologise, almost.

Laugh nervously.

Restate opinion, in a comical manner.

Repeat the above with increasing wit and humble ramblings.

No. Since the previous two posts were repeated it's a statement of fact.

Even though I sold my Boxster last year I didn't take up my experience day until yesterday. Immediately felt at home in it and it enables even a crap driver like me to go around the track smoothly at reasonable speed.

I can tick the first box, but none of the rest apply so I know your wrong (in my opinion, but I’m not joking)

To sum up this thread:

My 981/718* is better than your 981/718* because I have low self-esteem and it makes me feel awesome.

Indeed, and contrast it with the review for the 981 GTS

Nails the whole argument. I can't imagine a 718 driver ever took their car out just to listen to it. The sound is soo important, and it's something you can still appreciate even when you haven't got the space to use the performance which is the reality on UK roads.

Yep.

6:29: "But, if it was my money, I want the old GTS with the flat 6 in it. When you nail it in that car the hairs on the back of your neck stand up, and that never happens in this new one.

6:55: "It's (the 718) an impressive car rather than one that blows your mind (981) and that's why I prefer the old one."

Porsche are running a sound quiz over on Instagram today - https://instagram.com/p/Blcie_eBrT-/

Most models are present, bar the Cayster..so strictly limited to 6 cylinder models.

Yep, can someone just close this thread now.

Absolute nail on the head there.

'I can't imagine'? Problem would seem to be your imagination then.

I used to take my old 718 CS for a spin on early sunday mornings, and sound was a big part of the pull to get behind the wheel. Windows always open.

What, so the wind noise would accentuate the whistling of the turbo? rofl

Just kidding :-)

I took a colleague out in my 718 for a work trip which amounted to a 3 hour round drive. I gave the car some beans in sport response mode for a few runs. They’re comment on the exhaust note was it sounds amazing. I did double check they’re comment and told them about the different sounds and arguments between 718 and 981, but they still came out with the same answer that the 718 sounded amazing.

And that's great... As a 981 owner I can tell the same story. I have a friend who as no interest in cars beyond it's primary function of getting him from here to there and it's reliable. He has no interest in what my car sounds or the 718 sounds like. You'll find people who like both and some who would, if sampled both, say the 981 sounds better. Or vice-versa. For me... it's not just the sound but that's been covered over many pages.
We like what we like at that's the bottom line. Your car sounds amazing to you, your colleague, whoever... then it does. You're/they're not wrong. It doesn't and should matter what I think.
This thread could've been so much better if it were a discussion rather than who is right, wrong, delude, prehistoric and stubborn. wink

My Mum always said the same about mine “don’t know why you’re not happy with it!”. And she was used to driving V8’s and V6’s when Dad was around.

I do think if you’ve not had a Porsche Flat 6 before there’s nothing to miss in the 718 and a whole lot to gain provided you don’t mind FI.
