Majority of how many ? you make it sound like thousands and to be honest outside the Porsche world people arent interested? Yes the Porsche owners club dont like the sound but then they dont like the cayster anyway as devalued the brand LOL .
The majority of people who are interested. The majority (75%) of PCGB, and 100% of reviews.By definition, the people who aren't interested, aren't interested.

Sound, familiar?
Why... Are they awful sounding 4 cylinder turbo cars too?
No, they sound better than a 718! Why... Are they awful sounding 4 cylinder turbo cars too?
However, the slightly larger 5-cylinder in the mk2 sounds superb. The 4wd system in the mk3 compensates in some way for the loss though. The 718 doesn't have that much of a difference outside of the engine change.

This debate is no different than the Focus Rs mk2 mk3 debate if fact basically the same and the mk3 is a better car, but Mk2 owners disagree, sound familiar?

The people who arent interested by definition are the majority. The people you are quoting are a few

Will it ever percolate through to you that the majority of people who care enough to express an opinion don't like the sound of the 718's 4-pot turbo? The people who arent interested by definition are the majority. The people you are quoting are a few
I can't put a precise figure to how many people that adds up to, but so what? The nameless millions of people who undoubtedly don't care about the sound of a car engine are irrelevant to the discussion.

No one knows the stats but I’m pretty confident they are biased between existing Porsche owners and new owners to the brand who where looking to enter Porsche ownership with a new car. You can argue correctly that they don;t bring any of the baggage of what the older Porsche sounded like / required a new car higher up their proprity chain and the 718 has fulfilled that.
The argument they are selling well is not relevent to me as engine aside and for the reasons stated above (plus re driving “personality” most people new to Porsche are coming from a FI background nowadays and are simply not used to / have no benchmark for high capacity NA engines) ie Porsche are very good are marketing and they make to demand, what no one can say is how many more / less they would have sold have the 718 had a NA engine so its a mute point.
Yes Porsche have got away with it but it all comes back to the same point for me which is a very simple one, would the 718 have been a better car had it had a NA engine rather than an emissions / Asian market let small capacity FI engine...... and the answer to that question.... is YES...... the 718 would have been a better car. That is to me and I know many other existing and experienced sports car owners including the press which you can ignore as much as you like but their view is pretty universal so has to have some merit .......
I genuinely believe that if you remove people with skin in the game ie existing 981 / 718 owners and ask and experienced sports car owner who is not biased by new v old requirements which is overall the better sports car to own / have fun in on British roads the answer would be massively in the 981’s favor. In time the market will reflect that and will prove that point correct or wrong, until then it is all just people opinions but the fact that there is even so much of a debate (well its not really a debate on the press) says it all really.

You’ve forgotten my line of work. We get to go out in cars most people on this forum dream about.
Wow, give me some examples of the cars people on here can only dream of driving which the 718 sounds good compared to NB you can exclude Tesla.Edited by Pinball on Friday 20th July 17:32

I honestly cannot think of one assuming the list is sports car orientated and the cars are expensive which you alude to ?
Any, even one example would be good so I can benchmark your experienced comments ?
Very unbiased and informative review - https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=k_yxJwXqwdY
Think it sums things up nicely. Sound wise the 981 has it but overall package and ability to get more out of the car more of the time, the 718 is very capable and still the best in the sports car segment.
Straight through exhaust on the Gt4 though . . . . Wow

Few on here and say 100 reviews but could considerably less
How have you come to your figure of the majority ?
100% of online and print reviews that I've seen, plus 75% of PCGB respondents, plus most of the contributors on here. There's a consensus that the new flat-fours don't sound very good. How have you come to your figure of the majority ?

If you like it, just enjoy it, but don't argue black is white, please.

Not saying it doesnt sound good iyho but its not 1000,s its a majority of a small amount of people . Forget pcgb as said anything other than a 911 they arent interest . At simply porsche proved that. They just love gt4,s not as its better than a 911
This "1000s" of your is a straw man. No-one is putting numbers on it because it's irrelevant. If, say 9 out of 10 people don't like something, that's all you need to know.PCGB were comparing 981 v 718; the 911 was not mentioned.

Sorry but accerating hard off the lights does make me smile and judging by the amount of sports cars that try and beat me im guessing thats why most have them . If power speed werent important we wouldnt have them?
Why do you have an rs when a bog standard will do .
Basically you cant speed these days so bursts of acceration and a blast off the lights is the best you can hope for these days?
