I think the 718 sounds great. It does sound different though. I expect people are used to them sounding like previous models.
It’s always a bit like this when new models come out, people are resistant to change, some purists don’t like some new aspects of development and some owners are upset about having a now older model.
Yep when the 488 spider was sold I could not afford a 718 (I should have looked at finance doh!)It’s always a bit like this when new models come out, people are resistant to change, some purists don’t like some new aspects of development and some owners are upset about having a now older model.

I think you’ll be blown away by how much faster it is and how much better the steering feels. Then it’ll just be a case of whether you miss the sound or not ...
Whats the power/torque output of a 718 GTS? I had an S for 2 weeks and didn't really feel much quicker at all than the 981. I think its more than just the sound, its the whole character of the motor itself.JayK12 said:

718 S is 420nm. When I collected my 981 CGTS the first thing I noticed was the total lack of torque in comparison to the 718 CS I’d just sold. As you say for some people like you and me the character of the engine and sound is more important but there will be others that don’t care about that and will love the extra torque and better steering and brakes.

While I have only heard a 718 at idle in traffic, I am sure that even at full throttle it wouldn't be more unpleasant than supercilious bragging posing as irony.
I was not trying to be ironic but simply pointing out the rather obvious fact if you read this thread that most of the 981 owners who have posted a preference for the 981 over a 718 own a 981 through a choice without financial constraint as implied by the post I was replying to.The actual irony as pointed out later is that I sold the 488 as I preferred the earlier Ferraris (and 981) which are more fun to drive ie confirming the backward step due to emissions is not limited to Porsche. On the plus side we flipped the 488 for a profit, I doubt I could have done that with a 718 lol

I said some people might not like now having an older model.
My 981 has been at the OPC for a couple of days for its major / 4 year service. As always its a great excuse to spend a few hours talking Porsche and looking at cars. By chance I bumped into a few of the sales team I know pretty well from other marques who have now been with Porsche for c6 months (the premium car sales world can be surprisingly small). amongst other things we discussed the x2 718 GTS they had in stock (one unregistered in the showroom, one very low mileage registered on an 18 plate on the forecourt) and they confirmed the biggest problem they had was selling the 718’s to current 981 / Porsche owners. For people new to the marque they sound OK, like a sports car if a little rough but to those who have experienced Porsche’s before they really struggle to sell them due to the noise and 4 pot engine. Nothing in that statement surprised me but its still good to know your own thoughts mirror reality. Its worth noting that at that point they had no idea I had a 981, I told them later.
The 718 must be attracting lots of new customers to the brand.
