I've been watching this thread and there are lots of comparisons between the 718 and 981 sounds. I'll be honest I prefer the sound of the 987R with PSE to either of them.

The 981 does sound great, in fact just like the 987R until it starts spitting out fake pops and farts.

The pops and farts sound fun for a while but then start to grate on me, oh and the 987 has better steering than them both as well.

Sometimes new isnt better.
Each to their own regarding burbles and crackles - I love 'em biggrin - and as for the steering feel, or lack thereof, I can't say that it bothers me. It's more important to some than others, clearly.

I find the 987 to be the ugly sister to the 981's Cinderella as both the interior and exterior are really not pleasing to my eyes. Newer is definitely better for me in this regard.

As this this thread and others have shown, there really is no perfect car. You find the one that suits you best and go with it.

Yep, not a great looker IMHO. Painting it Kermit green doesn't make it any better...

Oooh that's harsh.....

You may have misconstrued what I was saying, I wasn't suggesting that the 987 was better looking than the 981 or 718 just that it wasn't ugly.

But hey, beauty is in the eye of the beholder as they say... I dare say your wife thinks you're handsomebiggrin

Lucky I like it , even in Kermit green laughlaughlaugh

Great shiny paintwork on that R. Jolly good detailing job I'm guessing.

Exactly - each to their own! I'm not a fan of the 987 and I do think it's ugly. Other opinions are of course available! biggrin

Thought I’d chime back in now I have something positive to say.

I think this looks great. It definately isn’t what springs to mind when I think of a 987 but that looks special. IMO anyway. (Welcome to the brutal world of this thread haha)

I had a base 718 boxster for a week. For all the reasons the GTS is a better sports car, they’re also all the reasons I really really like the base.

If anyone wanted to upgrade to a 718 but hated turbo lag the base might be for you. Really enjoyed my time in it.

My first CGTS was in Carrara white, absolutely stunning reflections given in sunlight.

I had a Boxster GTS in Carmine which I thought looked really nice and would go for that colour again, but I have to say I have always wanted a Viper Green car.

I’m also loving the base engine, so much quicker than my old 2.7.

You had a week’s loaner? Hope it was for an extended test drive or something , rather than a repair!

That looks like an epic spec on that car Geoff! I had a Carmine BGTS too, beautiful colour.

I had an issue with the electric rear spoiler. It had ratcheted up a notch some how so wouldn’t lay flush when down. Was a two day job but the sun was out and they leant me a boxster so, oops sorry mr mechanic I won’t be able to make it back to you till Monday smile
