Me too. I used to accelerate to 60mph in under 2 seconds and it's not nice at all. At around 5 seconds I can just about handle anything that's going on around my car, road conditions, react to other road users, etc. And my 15 months in my Turbo 4cyl TTS has taught me that turbo petrol engines are not for me for the same reasons as jonttt says.
That's just your age, DJ smile

On some bits of road it is just very satisfying to be able to out accelerate someone on a bend going up hill, say vs a TT(s) for example. Power + handling, weight and balance all in alignment. There are always faster cars out there for sure, I just feel the Porsche should be able to lay waste to an M140i with ease, say. I'm not sure the 2.7 could do that..? If you really want to ratchet up the power (and mod it?) the 718 at least gives you that option.

Don't get me wrong, they are all great cars no doubt. It's just that the 718 is clearly better ;-)

Not really. As has been said, they need PCP and the 718 is cheap.

I agree it is seriously good value, but it also does make me wonder where you go next if you do want the next step as they are such complete cars (I'll guess I'll include the 981s in that). I suppose the 911 is the obvious 'upgrade' but really is it double the car for twice the price just to get the 911 badge?

Anyway I digress so let's get back to the sound. We've not heard any one liner put downs from McScotty and the Cat hasn't posted any overly critical reviews at least for a while. Roll on the entertainment !

Bob, you’re either a stubborn, numpty idiot moron or you’re having a wind up... I’m not totally sure which yet... clearly there you’re on a wind up with DJMC there... yet other things you say are ridiculous... then there are questions you swerve and don’t answer.
You opened this thread about the one thing we ‘whinge’ about and then dragged in faster, tech, finance and now modding to bolster and argument we’re not having!!!
You don’t even understand our point re the F6, home difficult can that be? You don’t want to... we understand yours, you just want to convince us we are wrong, push your own view rather than discuss and understand...
Just joshing with DJ back there, I highly doubt he takes any of it personally.

I do hear your view HST, I also understand what is important to you, sound, NA characteristics, and that's fair enough.

It is just not the overriding factor in a purchase for me as I like to look at all the aspects in balance and the overall package in my view is greatly improved over the old one. YMMV so I guess we will just have to agree to differ. Which surely is fair enough, no ?

My point here is that there is too much focus on the one factor which 'detracts' from the overall car. And you must admit there is a lot of focus on that one factor, @ 59 pages and running now lol !

Since Mr Cat appears to have gone AWOL here’s the latest 718 review:

http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/porsche/boxster/10191...

Salient points below:

“Like all 718 models, the Boxster GTS now uses a turbocharged four-cylinder engine. Yes, it sounds a bit flat compared to the old car’s sonorous six-cylinder unit, but objectively, this engine is a marvel. It pulls strongly from low revs, and mated to the slick six-speed manual gearbox (a PDK auto is available) it feels flexible and incredibly quick.

...

All this comes at a price, though. Costing a considerable £61,727 before options, the Boxster GTS is almost £2,000 more than the sharper Cayman – and £7,500 more than an Audi TT RS Roadster. You can even get a Jaguar F-Type P340 for less, and that car comes with a delicious V6 soundtrack.”

Food for thought ?

No more like 6000 -do try and keep up. I know the badge is an issue for you - but clearly not everyone feels the same.

So let’s be candid, the problem with the UK car market (and I totally count myself in this) is that it is so snobbish.

Renault (ok Alpine) probably do have a great product on their hands. But perception, at least initially, will be “another Clio and I’m not spending 50 grand on that”, as great products from an underdog always take time to be fully recognised by the market. Eventually something truly great will win acclaim, but until then the Alpine remains a risky punt, with an uncertain depreciation curve.

TBH I hope it succeeds as the more cars (and competition) in this sector, all the better for us consumers. Until then, I’ll leave the brave early adopters such (as a BCR) to take the risk (and hopefully the benefit of strong residuals on a French car, lol).

This pretty much sums it up. The sound is just a bit annoying, the power delivery is a lot annoying.
So: You really are a “glass is half empty” kind of guy aren’t you lol

Plenty of 981 GTS’s still in the opc pre owned network..

I was in the same boat Si, the engine note is simply not as good as a 981. Yet for me the benefits of my 718 CS over the 981 where too great to take that backward step.

However once you get over the fact it doesn't sound as good as previous model, i think it is a great sports car. I also think the speed of it over a 981 is astonishing. Driving a 981 now feels like I have left the handbrake on..... ;-)
This is what I've been saying all along- sound is merely one aspect and on the whole is over emphasised and really detracts from a great car. Yes sound is important to some, others value better performance and tech. Some (a delusional minority perhaps) claim sound is the only thing which is important, but they also appear to be in denial about missing out on buying the newer and better car smile Mentioning no names eh Mr Cat...

It is the balance that appears to be lacking in this debate, and I won't claim to be completely neutral now having some skin in the game, which I didn't at the start. If Mr Cat's review was even a bit more even handed rather than just an over zealous criticism of switches and headlights it might have had more credibility, or maybe not. He did try to say something positive about the acceleration so I guess is not all bad...

JTT - welcome back hope you had a good holiday.

HST - there's a smiley there for a reason, I am being light hearted just to be clear lol.
