Well I sold my 996.2 frown and put it towards a 2.9 PDK 987.2 Cayman smile

Letting the 911 go was gut wrenching, but at 85k and manual had never felt suited to the wilds of the daily commute around South London and had become the proverbial garage queen.

Despite the weather's best efforts the Cayman has been amazing and very different to the 911. Obviously they have respective strengths but tbh I've hardly noticed the power difference and the ride/chassis is fantastic, tbh it's pretty much what I thought the 911 would be but never quite was.

Spec is simple - Sports Chrono Plus, Sports Exhaust & tailpipes, no rear wiper, some sort of upgraded sound package and uh, that's about it biggrin Only downside which isn't the end of the world is the lack of auto aircon controls, which I gather was a costed upgrade...

The numpty question - are the sidelights the small rectangular strips by the foglights and therefore separate to the main cluster? I know how that sounds but I've spent the last few weeks assuming they were the DRLs but just realised they are only coming on when I switch the sidelights on. So it's either me or the car that's confused (I can probably guess who!) Thanks.

Choice colour! I had one as a courtesy car, liked it a lot. It had larger turbo wheels which I think improved on the look but were rubbing at full lock.

Sorry I don't know the answer your question!

Thanks biggrin Yes, should have mentioned the colour, the 911 looked awesome in Seal Grey but I wanted to move away from the more typical choices. The angle of that 3rd picture makes the wheels look crazy small but in the flesh not so bad!

You're right about the DRL's. What you would think are the side lights are the DRL. Then what you think would be the DRL's come on as side lights. Seems like they got them wrong somewhere as I'd expect the DRL's to be via the rectangle LED lights too. It's the config of the non Xenon light cars. Mine is exactly as yours on a 61 plate R and I asked exactly the same question after getting mine home!

How does it feel compared to the 996?

Yeah, interesting question.

Big old caveat that driving circumstances are different, the 996 for weekend blasts (that thanks to traffic seemingly at any time now never really happened liked I'd hoped), the Cayman for the work commute. More fundamental differences aside, the 996 was at 85k, manual and on slightly tired M030 with interior rattles that were driving me mad, the Cayman is PDK, just now turned 30k and the only noise is me thumping the PCM. I guess decision wise the 996 was heart and the Cayman was head if that makes sense.

Anyway, to cut to the chase it feels fantastic. Its hard to describe but the chassis makes the drive flow, all the time, in a way the 996 only did when everything was lined-up and perfect, so tbh I'm chuffed smile I guess the argument would be the 996 is ultimately more challenging/rewarding but tbh the Cayman is doing everything I wanted it to so I'm more than happy.

I don't have a downer on the 996, it was an awesome car, an event (for me) and I hated letting it go to the extent that if I can ever justify another 911 I'd get another 996, but the Cayman just feels more agile/alive, and that's in spite of the on paper power difference.
