Visited Silverstone yesterday thinking that only a Boxster GTS was available - whilst waiting for my PM session, I saw a group of Porsche staff using a Crayon GTS Cayman. Asked if I could swop to match my order and surprise suprise they produced a silver version as well. Unfortunately this one had the leather seats and steering wheel plus the Carrera rather than black alloys. However, driving it, all I can say is roll on delivery - if could keep up with GT2 on the handling track and I’m not a performance driver.

Yes they do , they have 1 of each model and version, gearbox etc. Whats the point of buying a GTS and then playing in an S? Thats the point of trying out the car you are buying?
Afterwards they are put into the Porsche used system. Most are registered from Reading so beware of one careful owner with an R reg wink

Why beware? They are looked after very well, for obvious reasons.

Sorry, you've lost me. The cars at PEC are driven properly. Unlike privately-owned cars they are not sat in stop-start traffic queues, not many cold starts and short journeys, etc. Plus, they have very regular checks and maintenance throughout their time at the PEC. The last thing Porsche want is one of their cars to break down at PEC with a customer on board.

I certainly wouldn't be buying a car that has been driven the way I drive there the the 1st 3000m + of its life . Also virtually zero running in .....

I agree with the second half of your comment—PEC cars ARE indeed well maintained— but not the first.... There are worse things for cars to do than sit in traffic: frequent red-lining, over-revving (manual cars), inadequate allowance for engine warming etc..... Even “mechanically sympathetic” drivers will push the PEC cars to their limits on an “experience” day.... After all— people want to see what these pretty expensive machines are capable of....!! I’m SUPER sympathetic to my GT4 on a daily basis— she’s my baby... wink However, on my recent drive of a 991.2 GTS at the PEC i was NOT so sympathetic...!! After all, I was trying to find reasons to justify my wife’s “co-ercion” for me to swap into a more “practical” daily.....!! So.... I redlined it frequently, braked harshly, ignored proper warming-up “protocol” (after all, i only had 90 minutes with the car— I wasn’t going to waste 10 minutes keeping the revs down!!).... So, nope, a car that had done it’s first 3-4K miles at the PEC would not be high on my list of priorities (neither would a press car for the same reasons)..... My GT4 has done 24k— but it was properly run-in, never been over-revved, and is pampered like a baby (that does not mean it isn’t driven hard at times wink )..... I’d take that over 4k miles of PEC “experience” driving any day of the week.... wink

An instructor told me they run two of the config of each model...with the exception of things like the GT3. They need redundancy because the cars get serviced regularly etc and I suppose sometimes break down!

Agreed they are very well looked after, but some are given a very hard time. Ive had the pleasure of a few outings and had the track to myself for 20 mins and the instuctor said what i wanted to do and i said hammer it around before it gets busy he said ok 125 miles on the clock and i did give it some, i have done 4 launch starts in quick succession on one visit.
Its all well within the cars limits but treated much differently that it would be on public roads.

Porsches are designed to be ragged/redlined.

Most Porsche owners change their cars every couple of years or less. I don't think 1st owners generally give much of a toss about running-in a car which they know they are going to trade-in while its still under warranty.

Sorry beg to differ regarding the changing of cars, only 1 of my Porsche friends has changed his in the last 5 years, all treat them with kid gloves and none have ever launched controlled them. I always remark they are looking after it for the next owner.
The Porsche day at Beuleau is full of guys and girls who have owned their cars for a long time and they are weekend fun cars, but not in the way of speed a sedate drive in the country to a nice pub top down etc etc.
Chatting to the guys at the PEC ,very few drive the car like they do whist there, for 1 you cant do that legally.
Its the hire car syndrome? Hire cars are hammered as they dont own them.

Your friends are atypical, the average Porsche ownership span is 6 months. I don't believe that the owner of a brand-new Porsche is going to spend that 6 months at <4000 rpm, that is simply not how humans work, and especially if they know they are going to trade-in soon.

6 months....?!?! Unlikely..... Most go at least the distance of their increasingly common “PCP deal”— ie. 2-3years..... wink

6 months is about the average length of Porsche ownership according to dealers I've spoken to. Why are you winking at me?

6 months , they must have money to throw away? If thats the average people must be buying them one day and giving them back the next as i know alot of owners who have had them for years. All the guys on here with 981 GTS's are never selling them.

Exactly.... The only peeps I know who move their cars on within 6 months, are those looking for a future GT car allocation.... But they are far from the “average” Porsche owner....

I've been told by more that one dealer that 6 months is the average duration of Porsche ownership.
