Does anyone else suffer from this?

I’ve become paranoid about the mileage on my 981 GTS (the one that sounds good), to the point where it’s beginning to ruin the experience for me.

It’s only done 15K and will be three in August, yet i’m restricting myself to weekend pleasure drives of 50-100 miles.

I will do no more than 6K per year, all pleasure.

I worry about trying to flog my car with say 25K on the clock, then I think I won’t sell it ever, so why not just enjoy it?

Thoughts? Advice?

Life’s too short to worry about value and not enjoying the car. Money can always be made but lost of time/enjoyment can never be made up later. We aren’t getting any younger and you only live once so why not just drive it when u want to. Unless ofcourse you barely able to afford it and owning a porsche is to tick it off the bucket list and you’ll need to recover a very close value of it when you come to sell it.

IMO...You should drive it as often as possible... these cars only get better the more time you spend in them.

Or else what it’s the point?

You work hard, spend your hard earned on it, many will have borrowed money too, only then to be worried about what a subjective and fickle bubble will think about your vehicle if and when you decide to sell... you’d be better off not having one at all for all the stress.

Just get out and drive it..have adventures, drive it to the office... pick up the milk or kid or other half... do some track days... Euro hoon and even road trips in the UK. Oh... and don’t forget to post your experiences and pics here.

There’s this lady on Instagram called Hannah porsche. She has a GT4 and drives EVERYWHERE! Norfolk, Wales, Peak District, Yorkshire, Ireland, Scotland. She should be inspiration to many of the garage queens on here.

^^^ +1

My GT4 feels much more “free” every time I drive it, and you bond with the car so much better when used frequently....!! You learn what such expensive/technical machinery is REALLY capable of— otherwise why not just buy yourself a cheap, practical standard family hatch...??

We’re a long time dead— these cars are awesome: DRIVE THEM...!!

It’s just that I look at cars for sale and wonder how the fk owners do so few miles in such great road cars.

I appreciate many use them only at weekends or road trips, but even then I can’t fathom such low mileages....what’s the point?

I wonder that too. I remember reading an article a while back about a Ferrari main dealer in the US clocking cars for their good repeat customers. Makes me wonder how much of that goes on.

I only do 3,000-4,000 a year in mine and I barely use it. That big miles compared to some of these cars for sale that are 2 or 3 years old.

Status symbols, garage queens, bucket list ticks, “investments”.... Yep— pretty much sums up the super-low milers that I’ve seen....

Realistically it's a trade off between the enjoyment of use and the devaluation of higher miles

I think using the car double what you would do being careful, does not reflect double the value difference unless you are at ridiculous mileage (which you aren't)

Use and abuse, I say.

They are cheap cars to own and run especially as second cars doing c 5k pa.

I drove mine much more than i expected last year and could not wait to get it out of hibernation. It's one of those rare cars where you look at the miles you have done and think "yeah, that was worth it". What's the point of having one of the best drivers cars and not driving it ?

I did just under 21k miles from new on my 64 plate gts before I sold it in April 17’ for only 5k less than purchase price + some dealer margin. I think you are worrying a bit needlessly. Get out and drive!!!! You’ll probably break even when you want to sell it anyway regardless of mileage. The gts is a desirable car. You’ve got one so enjoy it!

It’s like marrying a super hot woman and not having sex with her, just to keep her fresh for the next man.

Life is too short and it’s only a car.

Jazzer, is your car an investment or something to enjoy driving? If the former, then use it little, if the latter then carry on as you are.

I aim to do 6,000 pleasure miles max in mine, which I think is a good balance between enjoyment and slowing the depreciation. Depreciation is usually the biggest cost of motoring in a new car. I reckon from that viewpoint my 981 CGTS is the 'cheapest' car I have owned.

Some brilliant replies here, hilarious!

I’ve enjoyed every car i’ve owned, the GTS is no exception.

For me, it’s too special to use as a daily, although it would be superb at that....the weekend or touring pleasure is where the joy is in my world.

It’s not an investment car at all, but i’m just checking your thoughts about my use of it and being able to sell it in the future fairly easily, without being bent over by traders.

An average mileage of 5-6K pa would seem sensible in terms of slowing depreciation, while still allowing for the fun use regularly.

Incidentally, the ones that are lightly used often need new pads/discs early because of that.

The engine likes to be warmed up and stretched across the rev range, I just wish this weather would change for the better to allow some proper driving.

Go out and enjoy..... wink

Drive it. The only person who'll benefit will be the next owner.

Even when your car is 10 years old it will only have 60k on the clock.
OPC West London are advertising a CGTS with 50k miles for 49990. Still strong money.

You know who will get smacked just the same? The people trading back in with OPCs to get in the 718 GT4 regardless of mileage!
