Mileage Anxiety!!
Discussion
The thought of going through all that effort to buy a car and then not driving it boggles my mind.
I'm averaging about 18k a year in my 981 although mine is the poor mans S model, managed 25k in a year in my 987 before that as well.
Yes it'll depreciate, but you can always earn more money, were as you can't get back the memories and experiences you missed once the car is gone.

Some brilliant replies here, hilarious!
I’ve enjoyed every car i’ve owned, the GTS is no exception.
For me, it’s too special to use as a daily, although it would be superb at that....the weekend or touring pleasure is where the joy is in my world.
It’s not an investment car at all, but i’m just checking your thoughts about my use of it and being able to sell it in the future fairly easily, without being bent over by traders.
An average mileage of 5-6K pa would seem sensible in terms of slowing depreciation, while still allowing for the fun use regularly.
Incidentally, the ones that are lightly used often need new pads/discs early because of that.
The engine likes to be warmed up and stretched across the rev range, I just wish this weather would change for the better to allow some proper driving.
Stop poncing about and drive it. Porsches love to be driven daily, and they deteriorate if left standing for days. I seriously fail to see the point of keeping the mileage low just because you're scared of losing a little cash. Seems backwards to me. What's the point of ownership in the first place?I’ve enjoyed every car i’ve owned, the GTS is no exception.

I bought my 981 BGTS at 3 years old and 5.5k miles. I asked the supplying OPC what their interpretation of a typical Boxster mileage was - 5 to 6 k a year I was told.
So I figured I could buy a low mileage car, use it lots up to around average mileage and then repeat the process with the next one..
I plan to keep the car 2 years so it will be 5 years old and c. 25k miles would/should be an OK figure to trade in. I’m on nearly 8k now so have 1 1/2 years to nail 17k miles.. it’ll never happen as I have a classic Triumph that I also use plus motorcycle and company car.
This does mean I’m not remotely hung up about using it and totally agree with the use it and abuse it attitude. This is itself is a good reason to get yourself a low mileage car so that all you’re doing is getting it back to average.
I had to replace the OE tyres as they were cracked - hardly worn at all plus I’ll change the pads too as they feel a bit wooden - aged parts are as bad as worn out parts sometimes..
I use my car for weekends away, track days, general hooning about and Mrs Wife likes it and uses it too - unlike the Exige I was originally after.

At the end of the day all we are ever left with is memories.
When your dribbling into your soup, wearing an adult nappy in the old peoples home, make sure you have something to bring a grin to your face.

I’m in the process of planning a road trip to France and Italy in the summer.....even Mrs Jazzer seems enthused!!!
I have even gone to the trouble of seeing how much luggage I can get in the GTS......laugh-out-loud amusing.....it’s actually cavernous!!!!!
Great thread this!!
I have a 981 gts and drive it when I feel like it. .... agree with the emotional view .... however if you do the maths and use £/mile then “not” driving it is more expensive .. you have a set of fixed costs, depreciation due to age, insurance, servicing, tax etc. The additional cost due to mileage depreciation is not the biggest cost driver unless you go mad ...

I went through a similar thing with my 997 GTS recently. Bought in December ‘13 with 17k miles and now at nearly 46k, so has been used. Was using as a daily doing c.70 miles per day and started to panic a bit. In hindsight, I realised the commute itself was sh*t, sat in traffic and then driving on horrible roads. I don’t mind putting mileage on it, but has to be the right mileage rather than what I was doing.
As others have said, use it and forget about it. You bought it for the right reasons and would be a shame to look back whilst you’re driving something that gives nowhere near as much driving pleasure and regret selling it/not using it.

You’re talking about it as if it’s some ultra rare supercar when in reality it’s a 981. They are nowhere near as mileage sensitive as anything in the supercar league. They are an everyday car, ok not a cheap one but still an everyday car. If you do tiny miles you might get an extra grand back come sale but you will have used it a lot less than you could. Stop being stupid and use it or if you’re bothered about resale sell it now and put it out of its misery
