If just one OPC allows just one car to pass the 111 point check and have an extended warranty applied (mine) then this surely sets a precedent. Any subsequent owner refused such a warranty (get this in writing) could put that OPC on notice that their ban on grilles could lead to litigation to recover the cost of any future damage to the rads which could reasonably have been prevented by grilles. Put this in writing to the DP and see if they then relent. If not, use their written ban and your notice letter in court if your rad is holed.

I'm currently contemplating the Zunsport grills as my 981 CGTS has taken a decent hit on the offside condenser. A previous poster mentioned fitting a different make; are there other options?

Yeah get some mesh behind the front bumpers. Rather than the cheap looking pop in ones. You can't see it that way. Most specialists will offer this service.

None I could find, other than DIY.

Why make a bodge of it when Zunsport make OEM grilles for JLR, Aston etc? They know what they are doing.

I emailed 4 or 5 when I got mine done. All of them offered the service. I ended up going with Nine Excellence.

On my 986 the front PU was off for paint. So I got the garage to cut & fit some aluminium mesh from a sheet I got from Ebay £15! Looked great & solves the problem.

The answer seems quite simple to me. It's all a matter of risk.

There is a risk that stones etc could damage your condensers from day 1 of ownership anything above say 20mph. If you accept the risk - fine, you may or may not have to shell out for new condensers at any time from day 1 of ownership.

If you want to mitigate the risk either drive under 20mph at all times or fit some grills. These of course only lower the risk of condenser damage, but for me (and may others) this is peace of mind that I have done what I can to save the condensers (and however many £££ they cost to replace).

As for the Warranty the only sensible solution IMO is to seek written confirmation from your OPC to state that these grills wont invalidate it. Or you could take the risk that the person who told you they are not an issue is still there on the day of the 111-point check, or that who ever does the check is similarly minded.

The important thing is that you are aware of the risks and possible options (and what each option costs) when you make your decision to go for these or not. As long as you have done this I respect whatever decision you make, but I would recommend to anyone that asks me that you at least consider fitting them.

:-)
I wrote this while I had a car out of Warranty, now I've picked up another with a Porsche warranty I've been quite cautious and contacted Porsche Portsmouth. The response was that as long as they are removable then it's not an issue. So I'll be fitting my Zunsport's tonight after a quick blast with the Karcher to remove any loose bits.

Zunsport make lots of grilles for all different makes so on that basis its not just Porsche that dont fit protection? If they all did they wouldnt have a business?
Good luck with trying to sue Porsche as they would just say it restricts airflow ? How you would ever prove this is not the case?
