It's loud and sounds rude and crude in my view. The F4T is tuneful enough (in its own way of course) anyway. Either save the dosh or put it towards more meaningful extras.

But it's your spondulix at the end of the day.

On the F6 a strong YES.

On the 718 I would say money better spent elsewhere.

I dont think you'll have a choice if you are speccing a new car for when production starts again in September. I understand PSE will be standard - coupled with a PPF ( Petrol Particulate Filter similar to diesel DPF)

My wife has a 718 Boxster...I did most of the speccing for her and didn’t give a second thought to PSE....and I am sucker for box ticking. Think it falls into the “trying too hard”category.

Just to throw a little balance into this conversation. biggrinbiggrin

I have a base 718 Cayman, PDK and PSE. Easily my favourite option. Would be the first box I’d tick on my next 718.

Yes, the pops, crackles and farts are loud on the overrun, but that’s what I love about it.

I agree I have Boxster GTS PDK and love the noises from the exhaust

My GT4 comes with PSE as standard, and it is the first button I press after turning the key.... Likewise in my old 987 Spyder: loved it...!!

Is it really sooooo much worse on the 718 models....?? Why so...??

Base 718 Cayman PDK no PSE. Just put it in sport mode and you get pops and bangs on the overrun and a louder exhaust note anyway.

After a year with my base 718 Boxster PDK I think if i was ordering again I would not order the PSE. Most of the change to the noise the car makes comes from putting the car into sport mode, even with the roof down turning the PSE on or off is not a big difference.

Different engine - F4T versus F6NA. Very different characteristics in power delivery, feel and sound.

I was thinking how many different Boxsters, Cayman and 911s I've driven and I reckon it must be over 60 and in all of them I went straight for the PSE button at startup where they had it. Until I drove the 718 (Boxster and Cayman). In these I avoided it like the plague.

There are two places that come to mind when thinking about popping and banging noisy exhausts; a nearby McDonalds whose car park in the evening is a meeting place for young people with modified Corsas Fiestas etc and Knightsbridge where rich people from the middle east parade their high end sports cars making as much noise as possible.

I enjoy my Cayman, without PSE option, but would have chosen an option to have a less embarrassing exhaust had one been available.

You won't regret it; after all you can turn it off if you don't like it. Lot's of ridiculous PH snobbery on here, as usual!

Maybe off topic, but would suggest test driving a 981 before ordering a 718.
All the best !

I wouldn’t bother with that outdated 981 POS, why test drive an older, slower model when you can actually buy a decent car?

There are many reasons, which can only be experienced if the OP takes a 981 for a drive smile
Besides, some people like ‘outdated’ cars... who wouldn’t want an air cooled 964 turbo..?
